Whippets are game lil dogs under rated but you'll not get a better rabbiting dog than a whippet
-
Nice pups I like the lil whippet

That's f****r when we get those wet summers, last year was the same we struggled as they'd had a real shite year, they seem to have done a bit better this year with the dry spring/summer.
-
We don't have huge amounts here just pockets of them but enough to keep us ticking over

Had a look out yesterday cover is still a nightmare good few frosts needed, so the bigger Warren's are a waste of time, we managed 5, lost a few due to the cover but that's how it goes, glad to have the lurcher back after breaking a toe, all in all nice to be out

Poppy from puppy to working and her first catchMoochersways replied to Poppysadventure's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs Well done mate, nothing beats seeing a young dog click after putting all the time and training into it and finishing on that high is exactly how it's done good luck with the rest of your season
-
I'm sure she will get the job done for you mate
-
Looks a solid type, good luck

If it's rock hard could be calloused up mines same atm broke a toe on back foot (was a dropped toe anyway where he went through a tendon) on week 4 of rest now generally broken/knocked toes is 6 weeks of rest up/lead walks.....broke a front toe couple years back just rested him for 6 weeks and never had any issues again

Dropped rabbits is really for ametures there's nothing good In chasing a confused disorientated rabbit that's just come out of a sack
-
Each to there own personally I wouldn't start a dog young you just end up with frustrated yappers most of the time, why rush? People just get too impatient to start a dog when really that dog has to work for you for atleast 8/9 seasons I don't understand why you wouldn't wait until it's physically and mentally ready for work let's face it another 4 months isn't long to wait......I know people will say what difference does 4 months make but think of it this way, if a dog ages 7 years for every one of our years imagine the difference 4 months make mentally
-
Probably because she's too young and niave at 8 months wait till she's a year old and walk up on some squatters on the lamp dropped rabbits no good

Had a look at a new permission today meet landowner and walk around type thing, thought I might as well take some ferrets, lots there and a few big Warren's that I didn't fancy tackling without an extra pair of hands or dog (my dog resting up after an injury) there was 2 bonfire piles in the fields that had Warren's underneath so longnet round them for a quick 5 landowners came and watched they enjoyed it all in all a nice morning out and tapped it up for a few bigger days

-
Should be alright normally 6/8weeks and good to go again
-
Out ferreting last weekend it's on a dropped toe as well so bit of a weak point
-
Good luck mate hope you get a few......it would be a nice night for it here but my dog is out with a broken toe
-
Yeah always nice, only downside is my dog caught his toe on the longnet and took a spill......finished early as he was limping on that bit over keen being his first day back but we tapped the place up for a few more days out
-
Had a couple hours out this morning on a new bit of ground couple open Warren's for 9.....and farmer next door saw us and gave us permission on his ground aswell productive morning out
-
There's a guy on youtube the aussie ferreter ( might be wrong) but he uses them they seem pretty effective
-
Just laid over the top of open Warren's like a giant purse net
-
Interesting way of doing it tbf saves setting loads of pursenets, guess the quick set has taken over now, nice to see traditions being kept tho
-
Seen that Australian fella on youtube using them never really heard of anyone using them here
