  1. I have heated kennels for my gundogs. When it was -16 outside & snowing they prefer to sleep in the run. Insulated, draught free kennel is more than enough especially if you kennel a couple together.
  2. Only have gundogs but everyone is outside. Only Cockers but the other year proved to me how much it doesn't bother them. It was snowing & temp in car showed -16. The dogs, which have heated kennels were all outside sleeping covered in snow.
  3. I had a pup spaniel nicked about 2 yrs ago, while Pikeys we're in the area (c*nts). Left the adults dogs & only took the pup, probably easier to get a quick sale down the pub. Much to my surprise I got a call 11 months later to say it had been found 100 miles away & handed over to the local vets. Dog had a few "mental" issues when I got it back as it had obviously be given a few kickings. Time & patience has sorted it and he is back working now. The advantage of micro-chipping. Good Luck getting them back.
  4. Good looking pup. If there any probs with the sale PSE give us a shout.
  5. I wouldn't worry to much if you don't get to see it. Nice to see the work on some sort of TV but nothing special. (no offence to trainer, its the programme I'm on about)
  6. Cocker pup!!! Now your life is over Enjoy the pup
  7. 22nd July 21:30hrs - next showing
  8. The Kennel club class the CKC as part of the Toy Breed, so please get this thread to fook out of the Gundog section. Oh and to the OP, grow a set.
  9. Edward Martin will forget more about gundogs that most on here will ever know. His depth of knowledge is superb & I find his manner excellent on the DVDs. He really shows the difference that cockers bring to the shooting field & the different way they need to be handled in training. Davie is also a top man who has a brilliant style that comes across well in the DVDs. I have both sets and would recommend them all. If you want a cocker specific dvd then I would try & get the Hawcroft gundog Series by Simon Tyers.
  10. You calling a dog is not the same as the previous owner calling the dog, everbody has different pitch, levels etc. If it's outside then when you feed it give the recall command YOU want to use as it comes into its bowl. (it's already on its way so you cannot fail). Do that for a week or so and then just extend it. when its out playing & coming towards you just give the recall command (it's already on its way so you cannot fail). Do that a couple of times each play session, praise the dog 7 then let it continue playing. Then once you know it knows the command you can start it in a f
  11. How much training are you doing at 16 weeks??
  12. Rabbit Trial - Jul / Aug - mostly Yorkshire. Apart from the odd partridge trial they start when the pheasant shooting season starts. (For spaniels - Pointers in a different story.)
  13. Michael Brander has 2 that will put you on the right track
  14. Season about finished but there is a diary of events on the Kennel Club website that you can download. There is also a list of FT Secs on the same website. Contact the Sec of the trial you wish to attend and ask if it is ok.
  15. The owner of Gonegos is once of the nicest most knowledge chaps you are ever likely to find. He breeds only quality dogs that are worked constantly throughout the year. When not been shot over his dogs are worked to his excellent collection of BoP. Contact him, you wont go wrong if you want a HWV.
  16. Cocker breeders have spent years trying to ensure they DON'T give tongue!! Never seen them on foxes but if mine crossed a rabbit scent while it was tracking a fox I know which it would prefer.
  17. I have had a dog stolen & returned 10 months later because it was chipped so I support anything that reduces the crime. This will do nothing to reduce the theft. Longers sentences for the criminals, a police force that actually takes it seriously & most of all, people NOT BUYING dogs that are far too cheap would reduce the theft rate. The thought of seeing all my dogs running around with this visible branding on them is a no no to me. My dogs working ability is the most important thing but I still don't want them to look like a mini hoarding board.
  18. The runner he took when winning the champs up at Ford & Etal was magic to watch. Ian just stood there & let him get on with it. What a retrieve
  19. I believe Wemmergill has had a few great days so far. Considering the investment made in terms of money & manhours they deserve it. The wildlife will no doubt be a million times better than it was, but don't suppose that matters to those who are anti the shooting. I'll be out next week on our shoot which borders a grouse moor. Just me & the dog, so if a grouse gets up I hope I get it. (The grouse moor owners don't mind the very few we take on our side as at least we are also managing the vermin)

  21. Shocking news. There is a bloke on the gundogtrainingforum who has recently had to hand raise new pups. Get on there & post, je'll come & give you advice. It certainly won't be easy but good luck with it.
  22. Treat yourself to the David Lisset DVD set. or for less money the Joe Irving "Training Spaniels" book.
  23. Hearing reports that due to the lack of rain the numbers are looking good. Still be out my price bracket but hope the estates that have them continue to flourish.
