  2. If she was chasing sheep before then certainly, if not, then probably not. Do you want her to chase sheep, is running deer your way of preparing her to chase sheep? - If so it isn't the most efficient way to train her, there are lots of lads on here with dogs that aren't safe with sheep and you would be better off going out with one of them and letting her join in and rag a sheep along side their dogs - that's the most likely way to get her started on sheep.
  3. Humans can get liver fluke as well - that's why if you gather watercress from streams you should soak it in dilute vinegar before eating.
  4. Good article by Dave Sleight about Dave Platts in this month's EDRD. Like Mr Sleight I have a lot of respect for Dave Platts. I have blood from his deerhounds in the bitches I am running now and have seen several Platts bred dogs do very well. Dave Sleight also has some choice words for the knockers, whiners, arm-chair experts and internet warriors who infest this forum and seem to get off on slagging-off people like Dave Platts who have spent their lives doing their best to breed decent dogs.
  5. If you look at the description of the gun - the barrell is less than 24" which automatically makes it a section one firearm rather than a shotgun
  6. we have fed garlic mixed in food for generations and it will not cause aneamia it helps to purify the blood and it doesnot destroy red blood cells. Also as said once in the dogs ciculatory system it helps to prevent flea and lice infestations, So where is the research evidence for your statements? Can you point me towards where the studies you have done which contradict the established scientific work on garlic and onion toxicity to dogs have been published?
  7. A guy just up the road from me was killed last year when the oil drum he was cutting up to make a BBQ exploded, so make sure you wash it out really well first with detergent and hot water
  8. Experience - well Hot Meat I was in my mid-teens when I started and I got my first lurchers and terriers in the early 1970's and have worked them on a daily basis since then, so I'm coming up to my 40th year as a lurcherman. I have had bull and bedlington crosses, collie-crosses and saluki-blooded coursing dogs (I won and lost a lot of money with them in the late 1970's- early 1980's) as well as deerhound blooded dogs and a variety of pure-breds. I have seen literally thousands of dogs work and have learned not to generalise from small samples of experience. Anyone who has belonged to th
  9. Experience of what, reading other people's post's on a certain forum It's the school holidays again and the place is filling up with obnoxious young boys, happens every time. Ignore him and he'll go away or Hot Meat's mum will find out that he's spending time on the internet trying to annoy the grown-ups when he should be doing his homework
  10. Aylesbury & Oxford are the best part of 25 miles apart so where exactly are these 'new grounds' you have got and how did you 'get' them without going down and meeting the landowner and looking around? You come on like a poacher wanting someone to tell you where to poach.
  11. garlic is toxic to dogs my dog pinches the garlic of the shelf in the kitchen, I always find either a Clove in her bed or out in the garden! How toxic is it to dogs? :s Its a toxin. While it will take a lot to kill a good size dog but it can cause damage at much lower doses. Dogs simply shouldnt be given garlic or onions at all.
  12. There are some jobs that full size dog of 29+ can do much better than a smaller dog but an open forum isn't the place to discuss this. Keep saying it and 1 day you may actually believe it. 14. Lots of pictures of little bitches on here not big powerful bitches. I have two - an 8 year old, 29" 85lb 3/4 grey / 1/4 deerhound bitch - was the best allrounder I have ever seen. I also run her 2/12 year old daughter who is 5/8 deerhound / 3/8 grey, stands a shade under 31" at the shoulder and also weighs 85lbs - she's lighter built than the old bitch who is massively powerful The old girl was blisteringly fast in her day, the youngster isn't as quick but has absolutely huge stamina. Both bitches have killed an awful lot of game.
  15. Well done, I wish more stalkers took your attitude.
  16. There are scores of threads on here about deerhound/greyhounds just use the search facility
  17. In the good old days mine had all killed large game by a year old but the more deerhound they have, the slower they tend to be to mature. I have a bitch now who is just shy of 31" and she wasn't really mature until about two or so but is quite formidable now. Just give it some gentle work and see how it goes
  18. Has anyone used one of the new Lightforce Striker HID lamps? Im interested in how long they take to get to full power and how bright are they compared to the standard 100w striker. Cheers.
  19. How much is it with P&P? £28.00 Cheers
  20. You have obviously never caught any muntjac bucks - locally I know of a number of dogs killed by muntjac and a few years back I saw a 26" bull cross bleed to death after being opened up by muntjac. I also know of dogs killed by fallow and sika F**king hell now it takes a game dog to kill a Munty,Ive heard it all. I said nothing at all about game dogs or killing muntjac - just that muntjac and other deer kill dogs from time to time, whereas foxes don't do this. I have two mates who have had dogs killed by muntjac-related accidents which happened while they were out rabbiting just in

  22. Thank goodness for some sensible advice, this thread of mine seemed to be in danger of degenerating into a bitch-slapping contest between gays until you came along. How much Great Dane would you recommend?
