I have a 3/4 grey / 1/4 deerhound bitch in pup at the moment and due to deliver next weekend. My bitch is a very, very good allrounder and outstandingly good on heavy quarry. She is in pup to Dave Platts pure deerhound Turpin so the pups will be 5/8 deerhound / 3/8 greyhound. This breeding throws pups very similar to first cross deerhound/grey but usually with a bit more coat, pm me if you want more info. Cheers.

You link doesn't work

The show was rubbish last year, hardly any lurchers or terriers there

I have a pair of Opticron 10x28 compacts which I use all the time and I'm very happy with them. I bought them after comparing them with a wide-range of other compact 10x Binos

I've got a 30" bitch at the moment who absolutely murders rabbits day or night and I have had a 31" dog who also killed rabbits well, I have also has a 22" dog who couldn't catch rabbits for toffee, It's down to the individual dog. Size and weight matter much much more with large quarry than with small.

I run them, fantastic dogs, I wouldn't have anything else now

I have had one of the original Pedretti .410s since they first came out in the early 1980s - its been a very useful tool indeed, the 12 bore is bigger and clunkier but obviously hits harder as well

help needed! i need your opinions

Night shooting with a moderated .22 rifle using a nightvision scope, there is no other method which approaches the cost-efficiency of doing it this way. -
It's townie chavs with no skill, no field-craft and no respect for their quarry or for anyone who lives in the countryside just coming out of the cities and ram-raiding the countyside. It's a shame that these scumbags have been encouraged by sites like this and by chav writers popularising their activities.

Jack Russell pups for sale
Lost Generation replied to Lost Generation's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Yes mate, they are a fantastic litter from solid working stock, I have dug to both parents and had a lot of sport working them above ground along with my dogs and I can't understand why they haven't all sold. I was over there at the weekend and we had the pups out working the hedgerows and they were going like gooduns. -
Litter of three Jack Russell pups for sale, - two dogs, one bitch. Both parents work above and below ground and can be seen. Mother is small short-legged bitch, sire is a strong leggy dog. 16 weeks old, well socialised with children and other dogs, location near Witney, West Oxfordshire. £150. Tel 01993 706676. I'm advertising these for a friend who doesn't use the internet, so please phone the number if you are interested rather than contacting me.

It's a Lucas LR9 lamp - there's some on Ebay at the moment but they are a rare item coveted by the classic car boys so you will pay through the nose for it. I used one for lamping in the late 1970's and found it at the back of a cupboard the other day when having a clear-out but unfortunately cracked and no good to you

Ooops, I hadn't read your post properly and thought you were talking about teh .410 rather than the 12 bore.

If you use a subsonic cart (I've not seen any but I suspect someone makes them) you will not get a sonic boom, so the "hush" only has to moderate the propellant bang (which is all it can do anyway)....but then you end up with a tool with an arc like a rainbow and possibly the range to make it to the end of your garden May I suggest clubbing the prey to death, probably about as useful generally! If you use a high (normal) velocity cart then you will get a sonic boom..f**k all the "hush" can do about that! I've had a silenced .410 for more than 30 years, you can use all .410 am

The Blitz and Striker both use the same bulb and so put out exactly the same amount of light. They also use the same handle etc so only the reflector is bigger, there really isn't that much difference in the beam at all, the Blitz beam is a bit tighter which might make a difference at extreme ranges but personally I have never found it makes much difference.
-
Get the 170, the 170 & 240 use the same bulb. I've got both and there's actually not that much difference in the beam but the 240 is bigger, clunkier and more expensive. I use the 170 all the time and just use the 240 from a vehicle because I find it a pain to walk with.

Couple hours lamping with the 410
Lost Generation replied to David's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
He didn't mention using the lamp to shoot the pigeons, only the rabbits. Its perfectly legal to shoot roosting pigeons as long as you don't use an artificial light -
I'm posting this advert for an old friend who is a good dog man but doesn't use the internet. My mate has a litter of 8/9 week old Jack Russell pups for sale. He owns both the dam and the sire and both can be seen. The dam is a small short-legged but very tidy bitch able to get into some very tight places and the sire is a big strong leggy dog who is an absolutely outstanding all-rounder. My mate has done a lot of keepering and both are worked daily to a huge range of quarry from rats to flushing and tracking deer, they are predominantly used above ground but I have dug to both of them and bot

Lithium Ion Batteries
Lost Generation replied to JohnGalway's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
John, I think that you will regret this decision when you finally see one and get a chance to see just how good they are, for me, the reduction in the weight I'm carrying up and down steeps banks and hills has been a real boon. If your pockets are deep enough you could buy two and simple swap the lamp over when the first has given out. Two of these packs would only weigh 3 1/2 lbs altogether against I would guess 10-20lbs for your current battery. -
would this be any good to power a lamp??
Lost Generation replied to a topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
No-one I know uses a lamp continuously, some use it more than other, I use a lamp very sparingly and I always carry an LED torch on my belt for gutting, negotiating obstacles etc so the total running time doesn't mean much to most people. I used 7AH batteries with 100w lamps including the Striker and Blitz for many years before recently going over to the Deben Tracer Lithium Ion pack. You can get a new 7AH sealed gel battery for £15-20 and I have often got used ones taken out of burglar alarm systems with lots of life left in them for free to just a few quid. These days I would say, if -

Rubbish. Do your maths. I used 7AH battery's for many years, going out for 1-2 hours at a time and rarely ran one flat. I now use the Deben tracer Lithium Ion 10AH pack - its simply superb abd I wouldn't recommend anything else now -
A .22 round between the ears is a pretty certain way to cure this problem. Otherwise, some yappers grow out of it and others don't. That may not be much help to you, but that is my experience.

Lithium Ion Batteries
Lost Generation replied to JohnGalway's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Hi John, considering the ground you hunt I can see why you use a walking light, I would still consider a powerful LED torch and a Tracer powerpack, although if you have really deep pockets you could always get two Tracers - the weight will still be less than a quarter of what you are carrying around now! From the autumn onwards I carry a smallish LED torch on my belt and have shot rabbits and foxes and done all sorts of other things with it as well.
