    home at last

Nice to hear your home safe. Our nephew is out there at the moment, due home in a couple of weeks. We've been sending out goody bags each week, but I'm not sure if that helps him at all. Drink some beer and relax mate. You deserve it.
  2. I was going to do the same with some spare nets I've got here, but then saw the calendar auction and decided to chuck them in there to help raise a couple of quid.
  3. I understood the reason that they killed so many hares at SMB was because they were so fed up with poachers. The keepers had been shot at, had their families threatened and lots of damage to the estate. I don't think they made the decision to cull such a large number lightly. I'm no fan of shooting hares, but given it is the only legal way to control their numbers these days, people should be careful not to condemn them too quickly. There are plenty of hares out there for everyone when we get a decent government to repeal this unfair, classed based legislation.
  4. I've done over 100 rabbits single handed.......... Yep, just me and the rimfire.........
  5. It's been done on here before for good causes, and will only be around for as long as it takes to raise the money needed to get the calendar into print, and onto thousands of shed walls I'm sure it'll boost the sales of Kleenex as well
  6. £17 seems like alot of money to me. It's about time show organisers realised that high prices are keeping people (what would a show be without them?) away. I was at Frome Cheese show all day yesterday; it was £12 to get in, and I (foolishly) paid £4.50 for a bacon and egg roll that was crap. Even Arlesford show that I went to last week was £12 to get into, and the only real attraction was Chalkwarrens puppy and the chance to see Mr Trapworks drink Pimms..........
  7. Nice to see a proper bit of pest management Dowen
  8. I fully understand that Mushroom, but that still does not excuse a blatant infringement of the rules. Text talk is rightly banned from this forum as it is considered to be lazy and sloppy, and it makes posts more difficult for old farts like me to read. As I've already asked, how difficult is it to type the word 'you'? Not very.
  9. Text Talk It can be a very 'social' occasion to invite a friend to join you, but it does have it's own risks, as has been pointed out. You should also check with the landowner, as some don't like having groups of people wandering around. is that better. It was, until you posted this: Is it so difficult to type the word 'you' ? The rules are clear. Text talk is banned.

  11. It depends on the hay, and the area you are in. We always grade hay as 'bullock hay' 'sheep hay' and 'horse hay', depending on the type of grass used, and the stage of growth at the time of making. How good is it? Is it 'soft'? Does it contain weed (thistles are a pain, ragwort is unforgivable)? When was it cut? Did it have rain on it? June hay is always more valuable than august hay. Where is it stored? What type of bales is it? Conventional (small) bales are always more popular with the horse market. Depending on your area, it could make between £1.50 and £3.50
  12. NOT protected by law, but harmless and should be left alone.
  13. Get your driving licence sorted first, and then get a job with another company. They will train you and put you in for your RSPH exam in NI. When you've got your driving licence sorted, drop me a pm; I have a couple of contacts over there who may have vacancies.
  14. While most of us have little sympathy for people who have topics deleted, I'm sure it's frustrating when you post something in the for sale section and forget to follow the rules to the letter and get your topic deleted. Well, if you know the right people, you can post what you like, and ignore the rules. Just look at this thread and you'll see what I mean. I've reported it, as I'm sure others have, but as I say, if you know the right people, you can do as you please on here.
  15. I may be a bit 'out of touch' with modern ways of doing things; but do you really need to be accompanied by a family member? I was beating from the age of 12, and none of my family ever even offered me a lift! Get yourself onto the NOBS website and see what they can do to help. You will soon convert your 'anti' relations when they see that your interest is not just a 'whim'.
  16. Where do you intend using any freebies you get? Have you got some permission, or are you planning on using them elsewhere? I'm sure there are people in your locality who could take you out and show you some sport; a good idea would be to get 'in' with a local keeper. Even if you live in a built up area, you should be able to cycle or bus it to your nearest shoot. Beating is a great way 'in' and also gets you some dosh. Join NOBS for more information.

    Calender auction

I've got 10 nylon purse nets here which can go in. I'm not vouching for the quality of the nets, but they will be alright for a beginner or someone who just wants a few spares.
