I'm a great supporter of Whippets, both ped and non-ped; but come on ! No way can a 24" 55lb dog be classed as a "Whippet" !!! Smaller Greyhounds have won the Waterloo Cup !! At least I can have this oppinion on here, unlike K9 where I was banned for voicing the same oppinion ! The BWRA sold it's soul when it upped the limit from 32lb to 55lb, just to accomodate the breeders who wanted to use Greyhound X's more and more ! Don't get me wrong; when I go to a straight open, it's to see the scratch dogs, but when I go to a bend open, it's to see the little 'uns run; I can see 55lb'ers run any time

Tommo, I think you're a top dog man !! But it's better you be a daddy, to that lovely bairn you've got and bring on that decent looking pup you've got !! Just joking mate, All the best !! Cheers
-
No, no , no, mate !! I said a dog that will take rabbits daytime, will have no problem taking them on the lamp !!! If you think I am wrong... OK.. you just carry on !! I'm not into an argument; youre pal Lamp & Battery is a top dog man, I know that, but don't be a young arsehole quoting guys who have done it !! Cheers.

Some of the best hare killers I've seen, (not hare coursers), were Whippet X Greyhounds. They couldn't run all day, like a Saluki X, but, boy could they take a hare !! Cheers.

Spot one whippets the best rabbit dogs by far. I've had some decent working Whippets, and have worked my Lurchers alongside, what I consider, the best working KC Whippet I have ever seen.... but to say Whippets are the best rabbit dogs BY FAR, is nonsense. Cheers.

Nose, stamina, coat, feet..... Cheers.

Hmmm,Kye, interesting. I once saw a Border Collie catch a hare; was it a "Lurcher" ? NO, it was a Collie. I once owned a 1/4 Collie 3/4 Greyhound, that couldn't catch a hare in a 'phone box ! Was it a "Collie" ? No, it was a Lurcher, (albeit a useless one ! LOL !). Anyhow, it's all down to opinions, and a good discussion. Cheers.
-
It's only my oppinion, but I think a dog must be at least 50% sight hound to be called a "Lurcher". Bird; I know what you mean about "Lurchers" & "Longdogs", I have one of each, but they are usualy just refered to as "Lurchers" these days. Cheers.
-
Just as there is no "perfect cross" or "best all rounder"; there is no "perfect height" for a Lurcher. It's all trial and error. Get a pup from the best breeding, give it the best kenneling, feeding and training, and hope for the best !! Cheers.

Lima, 1st X Deerhound/Greyhound; Lima & Bruce; Cheers.

What's the Newbiggin Open, mate ? Cheers. -
Road walking CAN tighten feet up a bit, but no amount of road walking will give a dog born with bad feet, good feet ! Dogs are born with good, bad or average feet; they can be improved slightly by walking, but you can't turn a flat foot into a good, tight, "cat" type foot. Cheers.

So you don't believe in "Rares" and "Hoes", Simo ?? Next , you'll be saying you don't believe in "Jackalopes" !! Cheers. I'm yet to be convinced but I'm sure many of the folk on here will be up there this weekend for a look out Didn't think about that !! The areas going to be flooded with banjo playing kids looking for rabbits with antlers !!! Cheers.

BUT !!! Up here in Northumberland we do have that amazing creature that is a cross between a Roe and a Hare !! Usualy called a "Rare" and sometimes a "Hoe", it's very difficult to catch, as it allso goes to ground !! Maybe a bit Rabbit in there aswell ??? Cheers.

if you type in bigfoot or nessy or god you will get images for them too mate yes but not for sale you fool Fictional, mate...FICTIONAL ! Check the link; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabbit Cheers.

Presuming this a genuine, if misguided question.... No mate, it's genetically impossible for a hare and a rabbit to mate, let alone produce offspring. Cheers.

I've been following the thread on K9 about "Club Racing"; and think one of the main problems is advertising ! I live 1 1/2 mile from my local track, Westerhope, but no one in the area knows that Whippet racing is still going on, even people who had Whippets in the past, and might have got back into it if only they knew it was still going !! Strangely enough; I have just today recieved dvd copies of the ITV documentary "It's A Dogs Life", all about Whippet Racing at Wallsend Rising Sun, in the early 70's ! I'm going to hand them out to people who may be interested in getting into Whippet Racing

On a Clulite, the bulb holder is attached to the lens by two screws thru' elongated holes. Loosen the screws and slide the bulb holder backwards or forwards to adjust the beam. It's fiddly and has to be done a few times to get it right, even then you may not get a perfect spot ! Cheers.

Now, I'm an old man; but what amazes me is the fact that people spend time, effort, and yes, money; trying to put something on for the dog lad's and lasses; like the Five Nations Championship, and also The Hunting Life Lamping Competition.... but there is STILL aresholes who want to complain... even though they have not taken part in any of these competitions !! It's dead simple..... if you don't have the dogs, or don't wish to compete..... THEN DON'T TRY TO DRAG IT DOWN !!! Cheers. -
