    In this day an age that is to be admired mate, i've only bred one. As far as i'm concerned the bitch is as important as the dog, i'd always admire a good bitch over a good dog and there are far more good dogs. So choose wisley, (no offence) but with your years with running dogs behind you, go for your gut not your head, you'll know when something is right, no matter how 'unlikely' that may seem.     Bosun, Delta is now 6 1/2 year old, and I'm toying with the idea of having her mated next time she's in. I've never bred a litter in over 45 years of having running dogs, simply 'cause I thought I could bring better in ! People go on about the Stud Dog.. but what abut the bitch ?     I'm just assuming, but I think the OP had coursing dogs in mind, when he started the thread ? But as we're talking about all types now; I would probably go for a couple I knew in the 60's & 70's. They were what we called "four trick dogs", hunt, jump, kill & carry ! A dog up here in the N.E., Brin, looked like a Deer/Grey, but could have been any cross; he did it all, day and night. I had a bitch, Tic, in the early 70's when we first got into lamping seriously, and she worked without a slip, carried back, alive, to hand, and was a handy dog in the day time ! That pic was in Nz 20 odd year ago, and the lads I was with, from Tokaroa, used guns, but they have been known to use a knife at times !! Cheers.

    Why on earth would you ask a vet for worming gear ??? They're the most expensive route you can go !! You can get wormer anywhere, even Morrissons, Asda, Pets at Home, etc. The internet is even cheaper,try VetMedics, on line. Cheers.

    I enjoy watching other dogs work, especialy abroad and on quarry I wouldn't see here. It's great to see other peoples way of working dogs, I'm never to old to learn ! LOL ! Been lucky enough to see some very good dogs of different types, on different quarry. Cheers.

    I don't think there is anyone who hunts pig, anywhere in the world, that expects a dog to kill a wild boar ! The dogs will either hold or bail, until the pig can be dispatched either with a gun or knife. Cheers.

    I lamp with two dogs most nights. I just put both slips over one wrist and put the end of one over my first two fingers, and the end of the other over my other two fingers. If you just want to slip one dog, and the other to watch and learn, get what is called a police lead, or control lead; it will go around your waist and has enought clips and "D rings to make it an ordinairy lead or a double lead, if needed.     Some people say they can make decent dogs; but the ones I've seen have had immense prey drive, too much, if thats possible !! They will usualy have a go at anything, but also usualy end up killing themselves,or taking injuries that leads to them being PTS ! Saw two good track dogs excersizing on a golf course when a roe lifted...one broke a hock, the other broke it's neck ! Saw one course a hare and end up with a broken wrist broken tail and ripped from neck to tail on barbed wire !! I had an ex trackdog, seemed fine until it killed a Poodle on the beach one day !!     Probaably because of the stupid Racism Laws we now have. Don't forget, ANYONE can complain of racism, even if it wasn't aimed at them, and the police are bound by law to respond !! Just look at the classic film "Dambusters" Guy Gibsons dog was called "Nigger", but now that name has been edited out !! It's all wrong in my mind, but some arsehole WILL report the site, simply because of your dogs name being , what in their mind is "racist" and "Offensive" !! Cheers.

    I suppose one of the reasons I have dogs for, is to get ME out of the house and get some exercise ! LOL ! Never had a need for a 'mill, but I know people who use them, and if it works for them, good; but I prefere to get out in the fields with the dogs, andI'm a great believer in "working" them to fitness.
