  1. Whats your Collie Whip in pup to ? Why don't you wait and bring on a pup from your own bitch ? Cheers.
  2. I'd say that anyone who is serious about keeping dogs, (of any type), and can't keep a dog and a bitch apart, to avoid "accidental" matings; shouldn't realy have dogs and should take up another hobby ! Cheers.
  3. Of course it's not black and white to you and me, mate But to the people who only want to race; well, good luck to them, and I'm happy that they are breeding Whippet/Greyhounds..best to the best...that are available to us Lurcher lads to use these fantasticaly fast dogs in our Lurcher breeding programes ! Long live the Non-Ped, as far as I'm concrned !! Cheers.
  4. Hows young Jacko ? Is he into the dogs ? Cheers.
  5. Birdog; I hate the fact that people run Non-Peds and un-tattood Greyhounds at Lurcher Shows ! I think they are cowards who are afraid to run their dogs against the best racing dogs on a track, out of traps, with real judging !! I ran my Beddy x years ago, at a show or two. She is an out and out working dog, and is fast, for her breed, but could she beat these Greyhounds ? No way !! The "Lurcher" racing of today is between purpose bred race dogs that have never, and never will see live quarry !! Let race bred dogs stick to the track and leave Lurcher racing for working dogs having a bit summer
  6. Oh aye lol but christ Richie i have one here not 7 month old yet..talk about stressful life matey  Is that a pup or a bairn ?? If it's a pup; hope it's a good'un, If it's a bairn; then congratulations !! Cheers.
  7. Chalky, I was probably one of the first up here in the North East to own Bilko dogs, I was a fanatic from an early age with trying to get the best racing Whippets. I had Bilko, Blue Peter, Yorkie Boy, Darley Fly, Blue Fawn, etc bred pups, but I was allways into the Scratch Racing and matching, and those dogs were allways hard to come by. I still think they are some of the best running dogs/Long dogs ever, and wouldn't hesitate to use one of these scratch dogs in Lurcher breeding. Cheers.
  8. Andy; when the kids are saying they'll see you the morrow....doesn't it make you feel old ??? It does me ! Cheers.
  9. I remember when he ran "Beuchelalus", forgive the spelling, at Ashington Whippet Club ! I'm sure he is on here, and would answer your question,if he felt it were relevant ! Cheers.
  10. but back in those days we could course on open grassy fields and not need to worry about who was watching Birdog, If I was to worry who was watching, I'd have given up a long time ago !! LOL !! Cheers.
  11. I remember when the 1st cross Whippet/Greys came up here. It was because the went to heavy or high for the racing down south. Dogs like Daisy, Robbo, (Bilko X Greyhound), Johns Rocket, Tiger Bay, also 1st crosses, and many others, this was about 1970, and they murdered our so called "Whippets", which were basicaly small Lurchers ! We thought, "well, at least our dogs can race, AND catch a hare!", but then I saw Daisy and Robbo run hares single handed and destroy them ! I had an 18" Yorkie Boy X Greyhound, a terrific racer, and a mate had her litter brother, "Kojak", 23" and would kill a hare a
  12. Having been a around bwra racing whippets my opion is that they are very fine built as they have to be, to get a big a dog that can run well as light as possible. This means they are not as robust as a kc working whippet in my opinion but i would think are much faster pound for pound. You could have a 21" bwra dog whippet running at 25/26lb a kc working type of that size would probably be over 30lb. I used to give my fathers racing dogs a run on the rabbits odd times but they were injury prone so he stopped me taking them out. Sounds daft but i think they are probably to fast and lightweight f
  13. You're right, 'Roxy ! I still go to the "dogs", (Whippet Racing), on a saturday morning, and get into arguments about 55lb, half x greyhounds being called Whippets !! My usual reposte is "there has been smaller Greyhounds won the Waterloo Cup " !! But I still love it; it's dedicated dog men and women breeding, training and racing outstanding dogs !! So fair play to them ! Cheers. can i add charti, not just the men and women but whole families grannies fed them, kids walked them etc. without a doubt it's the best family orientated sport bar none, a weekend at the championships or one of

  16. If we are going to be pedantic about it; they would be classed as "Longdogs", not "Lurchers"..but I'm not going to be pedantic about it ! LOL ! Cheers.
  17. I wouldn't, and was banned from the K9 site because of a discussion like this one ! BUT, the BWRA WILL register Whippet/Greyhounds as "Whippets", as long as they satisfy THEIR rules. Cheers.
  18. 1/4 Grey, mate Cheers. So it's not a whippet then You're correct, 'Von..... it's a "Non-Ped Racing Whippet"; registered with the British Whippet Racing Association. As I keep repeating; I'm a fan of both Ped and Non-Ped Whippets, and have seen both types work and race. I have never seen Boo run, but only heard good things about him ! Cheers. A question for you Chart as you,ve raised my interest and I know feckall about peds/non peds etc but can you register a 1st x grey/whip with the bwra ? They have recently changed the rules, and I'm sure someone like Bob,
  19. They've been called "Whippets" since the 1800's, (no cracks about me being there then !!), As some one said, the "racing types" came before the KC types. Of course they are heavily influenced with Greyhound blood, but their "pedigrees" can be traced back as far, if not farther than the KC type. I don't want to be dragged into a "Ped Versus Non-Ped" argument, as I like and admire both types ! I would far rather call them "Race Dogs"... but the Non-Ped has been called Whippets for far longer thn I have been around, so I'll stick with that ! Cheers.
  20. Pegswood ?? What were you doing on my "permission" ??? LOL !!! Cheers.

  22. Why ? What would this cross be used for ? Cheers.
  23. Vin, not knocking your Mal X Greys, but watching that programme and reading the Wiki links.... there wasn't one mention of Greyhounds in the breed ! They all seem to agree that POINTER, (wether English or GSH), are the crosses they use. It's a bit disingenuos to use that programme to justify Malamutre X Greyhounds ! As I say, not knocking your X, as I've never seen them, but a bit far fetched to use that programme to promote them ! Cheers.
  24. Vivs Twilight, http://www.thebwra.co.uk/cgi-bin/geneal.pl?op=tree&index=23458&gens=5&db=bwra.dbw, a very well bred bitch, with more than a hint of Greyhound in her. Lovely pup, mate, good luck with it ! Cheers.
