  1. Ha ha ha book depository - Dealy Plaza and people who love their 'shooting' love that!!!! Yeah, there IS a certain irony in that !! LOL !! I sat at the window on the 6th floor and took imaginary aim...... that Oswald must have been a good shot to make a head shot on a moving target from there !!! Cheers.
  2. Baw, I'm not convinced about the white hare theory; it's a bit like saying deer dogs might go for horses or cattle ! My dogs will pick out a deer in a horse or cattle field and completely ignore the other beasts, and all the other deer dogs I've seen done the same. I could be wrong, as I've done very little with white hares. I think some dogs like the wool and can't be broken to it no matter what. Cheers.
  3. Hi mate, whereabouts in NZ are you ? I've spent a bit time around the Tokaroa area, lovely country !! Welcome aboard !! Cheers.
  4. I wonder if that's where Cookiemonsters combine harvester that he lost, ended up !!! Cheers.
  5. Cheers B ..aye he was a ok matey ..once he was up the arse of them it was "goodnight" ..had some gear with him and like you say he's bred a few handy mutts,he's grandfather of your Diesel and sire to the big dog and also the blue bitch..not sure if he would of done it over the Border though on the big flat fields lol ATB Andy. Aye, it takes a mythical beastie to run the Biglands of Brigadoon !!! Cheers.
  6. I'm sure that's right, as he mentions it ALL the time ! Cheers.
  7. I just wondered if he had added a bit of the old stuff to the coursing lines, bit like Jack and Tomos bitch, what if the pups from that line were added to day stuff ? Just thinking out loud ! LOL ! Cheers.
  8. Try salmosphezzieslobsters@dslieghtbchapmanbobkizzietorofdartmor.co.scotlandthebrave Cheers.
  9. Andy, when Vic moved on to coursing day dogs, do you know if he had any of the old stuff in them, or did he go down a completely different line ? Cheers.
  10. Did you give the lad who's dog you used, and has one of the pups, the DNA print out? Which dog was sire to his pup ? Cheers.
  11. Selective breeding is fine; but how does putting two dogs over the same bitch, and not knowing which one is the sire to the pups become "selective" ?? Cheers.
  12. That was a good week wasn't it mate, think we ran more that week than most do in a month. Always welcome here mate you know that Lamping untill 2 in the morning, then back out at 4.30 goose shooting !! I was running on adrenalin, (and vodka) !! LOL !! Cheers.
  13. No argument from me ! I think it's been a good discussion. As I said, I'm a big fan of Whippets and I've owned and worked them, but for the work I do with dogs, a Lurcher is a better option for me. A dog still has to be fed, excersied, trained and kenneled well, wether it's a Whippet or a Wolfhound. Cheers. PS, you'll notice the only pics I've put on this thread is me with Whippets, that's even me on Mallys post, with his Whippet ! LOL !
  14. Nice pic, was a pure whippet? No, it was a Non-Ped Racing type, back in the 60's. Cheers.
  15. I got half a dozen Bovens Goldline Hybrid P.O.L.s for a fiver each last year and they are laying an egg each every day. Cheers,

  18. Well I can relate to what you are saying.I have had lurchers before, not into getting big numbers got a whipp that should catch enough to feed me and the dogs. Not knocking lurchers just for me a whipp is easier for me I can't see how a Whippet is easier to take care of, feed, etc, than a Lurcher ? I've got two Lurcher bitches, 23" & 29", and they take less looking after than our Mini Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua !! LOL !! Cheers.
  19. This one won any amount of races, killed pleanty hares, and took the odd roe. He was around 21" and 36lb....This was WAY before the ban was even thought of !! LOL !! Cheers.
  20. Only legal quarry IN THE U.K.; these Whippets take legal quarry in their own country; Cheers.
  21. I wouldn't hesitate to have a Whippet if all I wanted to do was race at the week end and have daytime mooch and a bit lamping, (as I did in the 60's & 70's), they're the perfect dog for that; but running all winter, day and night, on varied quarry, I think a decent Lurcher is the more sensible option. Cheers.
  22. It's well known I like Whippets, both Ped and Non-Ped, and have seen some VERY handy ones working the lamp and ferreting, BUT, as Reddawn says, they aren't a match for a good Lurcher. And while a Whippet will catch you rabbits, a lurcher is more versatile. Cheers.
  23. I don't think shows lack anything, as there is such a huge variety of them, from the small Hunt Shows, where costs have to be kept to an absolute minimum and it is a simple Lurcher & Terrier show; to the huge Game Fair Shows where they have all the bouncy castles, etc. There are some shows which are "family friendly" and some which cater simply for the dog men, I suppose all you can ask for at any show is good organisation, straight judging, and a fair crack of the whip !! Cheers.
  24. Yes Chartpolski, i've signed and put my name down as the 2nd named person and paid 75% of the rent with the greyhound owner 25%. By 'something like this' do you mean the situation or because i have been put down as a person allowed to tend the plot? I mean the situation, mate. We wouldn't allow people to share a plot, or sub-let, as it leads to this type of situation. Also, with councils insisting on 3rd party insurance, it has to be in the plot holders name, and could lead to all sorts of problems if some one sharing a plot got hurt. You should go to one of your comittee meetings and g
