  1. Not realy..... Beddys and Deerhounds have rough coats; salukis are smooth coated and feathered, Salukis can throw smooth and feathered in the same litter. Cheers.
  2. Bruce was an 8 week old pup when LDR got him Cheers.
  3. This same discussion happened years ago on here, and the coursing lads were adamant it couldn't happen, but other lads put pics of dogs up that were feathered, and swore they were first crosses ! I was intriqued and asked a Proffessor at Newcastle University, and he reckoned there was no genetic reason to prevent it. Who knows ? Cheers.
  4. The general opinion will be "no", but there are people who swear that they have feathered first cross Saluki/Greys ! So, basicaly believe what you will !! Cheers.
  5. I'm getting an egg a day off each of my Bovens Goldlines, (Hybrids) They cost a fiver each from a local farmer. Cheers.
  6. I prefer bringing on a pup, but getting a sapling or adult dog can work out well if you get the RIGHT dog ! Problem is, around 99.9% of Lurchers that get passed on are ruined by inexperienced owners, being entered to young, being overmatched on unsuitable quarry, etc. So, anyone getting a sapling or adult Lurcher would be well advised to do their homework, and adhere to the old addage; "believe nowt you hear and only half you see !!" Cheers.
  7. Only enter shows where the judge is your mate !! LOL !! If you want a chance of winning at most shows ! Cheers.
  8. To young for you !!! LOL !!! Cheers.
  9. thats no good theres no whippit in it I was only quoting what had allready been mentioned.... but a bit o' Whippet would be OK aswell !! Perhaps a bit o' Wheaten and maybe a smidgen of Borzoi, not to much though, it's only for rabbits ! LOL ! Cheers.
  10. So there you go !! Saluki/Beddy/Collie/Bull/Deerhound X Greyhound and you can't go wrong !! LOL !! Cheers.
  11. It's great if your dog retrieves, and a well trained dog is a pleasure to own; but don't beat yourself up if yours won't retrieve There are the odd dogs that simply won't do it, no matter what ! I have a seven year old bitch here who is great all round, but will she retrieve ? Will she hell ! LOL ! My other bitch, the Deer X is a natural retriever, with little or no training ! You'll get years of pleasure from your dog wether it retrieves or not Cheers.
  12. HOLMES, my dear Watson, HOLMES !! Cheers.
  13. I said on another topic that Lurchers were in danger of splitting into three distinct types; "working", "showing" and "racing". This is allready happening. There are pups advertised as from "Show Winning Parents", no mention of work ! On K9 website there was a litter advertised, parents were Whippet/Greyhound X Greyhound, and were advertised as "Perfect for Lurcher Racing " !!!! This has got to be to the detriment of what Lurchers are about; WORKING !! Shows and racing were just something of a get together for people with WORKING dogs in the summer, but now, very, VERY few of these Show/Race d
  14. If you get a new pup, what are you going to do with the other two ? Cheers.
  15. Any decent bred Lurcher will catch rabbits. I wouldn't get to hung up on breeds; just go for a pup from two genuine working parents, and you shouldn't go far wrong. Cheers.
  16. No chip on my shoulder; I just say it as I see it !! If you "NEVER" give a trial, then I and many others would "NEVER" be tempted to buy a dog of you ! Oh, and I may be argumentative, but I think I am "reputable" !! Cheers.
  17. My "pretentious" remark was about you "never giving a trial" and only dealing with "reputable dog men". You don't have to give someone a dog for a week, simply take them out and let them see it work !!! If you "never" give a trial, them most "reputable dog men" wouldn't deal with you ! And how do you tell if someone is "reputable" ? There are many, many plausable rogues in this game who SEEM "reputable", but are most certainly NOT ". Cheers.
  18. So how do you judge a dog if you cant see it work.? You have to take his word for it !! After all, he only deals with "reputable dog men" !!!!! Pretentious nonsense ! Cheers.
  19. Happened to me around 40 years ago. Part time keeper shot my dog, a very well bred Non-Ped Whippet, (you may know the breeding, Bunnys; Darley Fly (Bilko x Tearaway) X Susan (Blue Fawn x Young Lucy). Anyway, this "keeper" got the hiding of his life; me and my brother got arrested for GBH and Tresspass In Pursuit Of Game Or Coney ! The case was abely defended by a very good brief and was thrown out.. Not Guilty !! The "keeper" was then charged with Unlawfully Killing A Dog, and was found guilty, fined, banned from keeping dogs, lost his job and his FAC's, so apart from losing a good dog, it was
  20. I think i'd rather argue Richie than listen to this little b*****d yapping all day non stop We've also go a Mini Manchester Terrier that would win a yapping match !!! ..... Wanna bet ??? Cheers.
  21. Lapdogs are the way forward !! LOL !! Lot less arguing than with Lurchers ! Cheers.
  22. I know it's not a Lurcher; but one of the best, Non-Ped Whippets of the last few years, Shay, has only got half a tail ! Cheers.
  23. Probably mate there are a few, I came of most of those groups within days of joining them as realised was not going to be of benefit in any way to me. Some are not too bad but it just depends who is looking after them. And since most groups allowed all members to be listed publicly I figured it would be too easy for some do gooder to go on a print off a big list of all the members names... somethings going to change soon, just look at all the dogs in the homes! I don't want new laws made up about keeping dogs but it maybe for the better,, I was thinking something, like you
