  1. If I can educate as I go along, my time on this forum will not have been wasted........? Cheers.
  2. LDR lived in West Allotment and we used to walk over the field where that big new pub is and through the underpass and lamp all the way up to Killingworth and the REME fields with Bruce the rescue dog Cheers.
  3. Yeah, usually see him at Charltons fur &feather sale, also had a craic with him at the Horsely show, I think he had a Hancock dog with him. Hes more a pal of my brother, they go back years, used to do a lot with the terriers. Cheers.
  4. I've got a pal lives right next to Rake Lane hospital, good Terrier and lurcher lad. I've ran plenty hares around New York, many years ago, mind you ! Cheers.
  5. if you mean the new Cramlington hospital, my mate had the permission on the land it was built on, and me and LDR caught a lot of rabbits on there and the odd fox. My old bitch Delta had her first rabbit on there 15 years ago. It seem s like every time I have a run over there more fields are being built on. I was at the cage bird sale at Seghill a few weeks ago, even that was nothing like it used to be. Cheers.
  6. Other side of the dual carriageway opposite Earsdon cemetery, last year, first time rabbiting with the Teckel; I mainly go west now, as I live near the A69, but still have a look over the east with my brother now and again. Cheers.
  7. I am missing your point, when you first posted your "most folk" comment, maybe you should have said "most keepers and land owners". I don't think it was a big mistake of me to assume you meant most folk on here, who I would guess know exactly what "coursing" meant. But it's not something I'll lose sleep over.....there's many a slip 'twixt what is meant and what is written ? Cheers.
  8. Ah, ok, that's most keepers and landowners, not most folk. If I ask someone if they fancy going coursing, they know it's daytime hare, not lamping, ferreting, driving fields, etc. We obviously mix in different circles ! ?? ! Cheers.
  9. Really ? Everyone I know automatically associates coursing with day time hare coursing, or am I missing something ??? Cheers.
  10. Hare coursing was collateral damage to the fox hunting ban. The vast majority of people hadn't even heard of coursing. Labour wanted fox hunting banned to, in their words, "give Tory toffs in red coats a bloody nose". Nothing to do with animal welfare, simply class hatred! Hare coursing was caught up in the general catchall of banning hunting of mammals with dogs. Nothing to do with gambling, as I say, collateral damage, sadly. Cheers.
  11. I was at the Whippet racing at the rising sun last Saturday, had a pint in the Barking Dog. Was telling them how we used to course hares on the pit heap field, it's all covered in new builds now. My brother has the rabbiting permission around Seghill, no hares left but a few roe. I lived in East Cramlington 45 years ago, got done coursing at New Hartley. I know all that area well ?
  12. Funny you should mention Earsdon, a keeper shot one of my dogs coursing a hare behind the Beehive pub at Earsdon in '72 ! Cheers.
  13. It was lifting, mate ! Gosforth park was originally a hare coursing park, and still had hares in the 70's. Backworth had loads of hares as did Seghill and Earsdon, right down to the coast. North, up to Seaton Burn and Camlington were also good, all within walking distance of where I lived. Plenty around the airport. Now there's still a few at the coast, and any amount out west, just past Westerhope area. Some areas there's more hares and roe than rabbits ! Cheers.
  14. I don't think many disagree with their cause......it's their actions that most disagree with. Pissing off people who may agree and support your cause seems a strange way to get your point across....... Cheers.
  15. Have a look at the Peter Easterby coursing trial. The police and CPO insisted on prosecution even though those involved stuck to the meaning and spirit of the law. The court gave him a absolute discharge. Another day, another court and he could have had a criminal record ! Cheers
  16. No mate, Blyth magistrates court, early 70's. Cheers.
  17. Draconian punishment for poaching/coursing are not new! Theres a lad on here got hammered when caught with hares in his motor; I may not be absolutely correct with his punishment, but I'm not far out. He had his car, dogs and gear confiscated. £1,000 fine. Tagged for a year. Banned from keeping dogs for ten years. This was a good few years ago now. I can go back almost 50 years when I got caught running a hare with a Whippet; The magistrate, who also happened to be the landowner, leant over to the Clerk of the Court, and asked "what is the most I can fin
  18. Those damned penny blacks !!! Cheers.
  19. I'm pleased with her progress; recall is good, likes to range but not to far, keeps me in sight. Cant see any obvious faults in her conformation or style, but a long way to go yet ! Cheers.
  20. My first cross deer/grey pup; Five month, 25" and 52 lb. going to be a big girl ! Cheers.
  21. Leucillin is good stuff. One of the old dogs had a "gummy" eye, so flushed it three times a day with the cleaning solution and applied the leucillin drops three times a day. Cleared up in two days. less than £10 for the two bottles, and there's plenty left.........the vet wants £35 consultation fee and god knows how much for treatment and medicine ! Cheers.
  22. Hamad had smooth and feathered in the same litter. Must admit I like the feathered, For no other reason than aesthetics, colour or coat doesn't affect performance. Cheers.
  23. No idea mate, but I'm sure some of Hamads stuff is over here. I know Ruweis had some, but I haven't spoken to her in years. Cheers.
  24. From the allotment this morning for my breakfast omelette; Cheers.
  25. Are these the type of smooth coated, long eared Saluki stud you're after ? Unfortunately they are in Abu Dhabi. In the words of many a "tyre kicker" on here; " shame you're not closer" ! Cheers.
