  1. Definately mate, was speaking to him the other week, great country to go at............
  2. Steve Barton still breeds and keeps GSD lurchers are they are still doing the business.........
  3. like the lucas dog si As Andy says, only heard of this Lucas dog on THL, i would say are there any legends today?????? Fred mentions a dog which could bring down a red stag pre ban) he would class as a legend, not for me im afraid, a legend is a dog that excells at its chosen vocation, shows this certain extra something week in week out for many a season and even better if if can pass on its attributes, especially if these attributes are increased......Dare i say it but "lengendary status" is that certain x factor, before the ban you may have had several dogs who regularly caught 5/5 wi
  4. Unfortunately the population over the summer often changes, my permission often seems like a rabbit utopia during the summer but come september is often void of anywhere near the promised summer bounty............
  5. Looks like a nice relaxing walk........
  6. Never saw Merle, so cant comment but i think we all know why he was bullied up and i doubt he ever saw a fox apart from the corpses taken out a frezer for photos. This could be a great topic so i dont want it to be sidetracked with rubbish. Many of the coursing dogs have had there legendary status cemented through the various competitions they won and videos.........
  7. Merle is the baseline for all my collie/greyhound/lhasa apsos
  8. No im being picky tbh, im ovulating........
  9. Great debating thread Andy My personal opinion is some dogs were made "false" legends via a careful advertising campaign, Merle could of become one of these "legends". Respected legends in various areas of lurcherwork seem to had made a reputaion through their work in the field, and as you mention longevity, skills and that certain "something" is required with many more cementing that legendary status by producing stock better than themsleves, dogs such as Punch, Dancer, Pie, Blue, Blondie, Merlin, Eve, Seagull and a few more. These dogs attained legendary status through actions, not rumo
  10. Just out of curiosity why would an owner of a "big name" lurcher be interested in allowing their dog to line your unknown bitch? Surely when you find your chosen stud you can then ask all your questions?
  11. The lurcher is a magnificant creation that is under valued by the many and treasured by the few, this lad does sounds stupid but please don't put his namee on a public forum even though he MAY be evrything you say he is. The more we can do to appear educated, knowledgeable and far removed from the plebs can only be beneficial, no offence lad but your spelling is terrible and your signature looks like something a angry kid would project..........
  12. No, he wrote a new book "Guillibles Travels"
  13. It was a misprint, he wanted to register as DEARMAN due to the price of Bangkok chick boys!!!!
  14. Jams Christian Anderson...........
  15. The easy answer is start when the dog is mature enough, each one is different, pick an ideal night, an ideal spot and an ideal rabbit, lamping isn't rocket science, ensure the dog sees the rabbits and slip, the rest is up to the dog and will come with experience, just ensure you are on the ball with your basic training such as recall and retrieve......... Oh and don't listen to Billy Big Balls down the road whos 10 month old pup was nailing 40 a night, give a pup confidence, let it thinks it on a winner, first seasons are about schooling a dog in my opinion, testing can come with maturity.
  16. I'd still stand by my thoughts, but be boring if we all thought the same
  17. Do Yous mean a Coursing Greyhound instead of a Track Greyhound ? If so nowdays id disagree, Coursing Greyhounds are Far to Big and Heavy (90-100 lbs weight ) Bred for pace in strait lines over 300-400 m Nowdays when using Greyhounds to Influence Lurcher Breeding Best Find a Quality Track Staying Type. Hi mate, no i meant i'd sooner use a line bred coursing lurcher rather than a pure greyhound......
  18. Same here, but for me a coursng dog x shepherd, even the wastage woul be more than quick enough for bunnies
  19. I have lamped and ferreted with my own purebred collie/shepherds and caught many bunnies, i'd say they only needed a little more pace and if i wanted to breed a hunting dog, then the coursing dog does add pace, more than enough for bunnies but also many more attributs the greyhound doesn't. just my opinion........
  20. Must admit i would prefer to put a quality coursing dog over a pure breed now than any greyhound, not that i breed but i'd rather a bull/coursing or colllie/coursing dog, may loose a little pace but in my opinion the inherent qualities of a coursing dog as opposed to a track dog would outweigh this, just my opinion....
  21. I have tidied the thread up, is the attack fact or personal issues? And hubbs are you a previously banned member?
  22. In my opinion the right blood is everything if you want consistent working dogs.........
  23. if you just put a picture of your dog/pup usally the first one or two replies goes, nice dog/pup hows it bred so i reckon thats why people do it. but isnt it a big fall if after all the excitement and publicising of a pup if it jacks, after all wouldnt it be public embarassment as well as personal disapointment?? if it jacked then people will no not to go down that line of breeding.. I agree with trigger and socks, i dont agree with your comment at all. No breeding no matter how good has a 100% record, so if a dog from Punch, or Merlin and Eve, or Minshaw jacks you would never h
