  1. Yer, lovely little calibre and with plenty of knock down power for foxy when required ?
  2. I love my .22 hornet for vermin control, rabbits for the pot have to be head shot though, and the shot pretty much removes part or most of the head. Body shots just blow them apart really so make good fox bait. Great for corvids out in fields?
  3. Yep, I looked on livens’ website. It says they’re open for click and collect and they have plenty of fx’s in stock. The thing is that I wouldn’t be able to drive there to collect atm because it’s not essential travel. I’d also want to have a good look and handle a selection and also have a few shots on their indoor range before making a decision. I spoke to them before lockdown and they are willing to change barrels and calibres to get the rifle I want. It has to be .22, would a 600mm barrelled crown be too long? Might go for the latest impact though, not sure yet. Any information is much app
  4. Looks like a good’un fella. How much £££ are they if you don’t mind?
  5. Well, I know somebody whose had one since mid nineties, so I don’t think they usually fail quickly. It’s a Weihrauch so I’d expect it to last long enough to be passed down to the next generation at least once.
  6. I didn’t think that gun shops were open at the moment?
  7. I had a .25 bsa supersport in the nineties. I used it for ferals and rabbits. It was very effective at the shortish ranges involved. I bought another .25 springer a few years ago. It’s a hatsan striker. It’s not as pellet fussy as the bsa was, but it prefers marksman. The trigger leaves something to be desired for sure, but it’s not bad with practice. Doesn’t half kick tin cans like no other sub 12 calibre. If you get one, enjoy it fella, something a bit different. I like ‘em, that’s why I bought the hatsan, in fact, I’ve thought about upgrading to a .25 Weihrauch myself.
  8. Nice one Phil, it’s good to know you got a good one in the end because they’re a nice little rifle imo. Maybe the first one had alignment problems with the loading port, possibly causing the pellets to shave slightly? That might explain the poor accuracy? Good to have a bit of a project as well, especially during this lockdown period. Keep safe fella?
  9. Looks like the new impact is more versatile regarding power output. I did suspect this. Obviously can’t get either atm and I don’t know what imports, if any, will be coming in after the lockdown. I do know where there’s a new .22 impact with the power plenum locally, but I don’t know if I trust the shop if I need any after sales service.
  10. They are quiet, I’ve got three boxes left. Good pattern but again, slow.
  11. Talking of roaming your own land as you please, I once approached an old lady walking her dog on my land about 200 yards from the actual public footpath. When I pointed out that she was nowhere near the footpath, she actually had the audacity to suggest that I shouldn’t be this close to a bridleway (actually a private track) with a gun.
  12. If it was me, I’d get another.22 rf (LR or WMR)sporting rifle this time, plus moderator. If you have a mouse problem though??............
  13. Yep, the eley two inch throw at sh1t pattern at anything more than a few yards. Why they only do them in #6 shot I don’t know. They’d be a good ratting cart in #9, but 9 grams of #6 wtf is that about? ?
  14. Those fourlongs used to be really quiet. I used them in my modded fourten. They were the quietest I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a lot. Not surprisingly, when I put a few over the chrono, they were only doing 750fps. The eley two inch “fourten” cartridges were both faster and louder, but my results didn’t match eley’s advertised velocities on their website. May have been my bad testing? But I don’t think so.....I really don’t ?
  15. Could I set up a .22 crown to run bisley magnums or similar at 40ft lbs or would that be pushing it too far without further modifications? Thanks for any replies ? Edit to say, would 40ft lbs be within its normal operating range, or would the new “power plenum‘ type impact be better for this set up?
  16. Not too good at 15 yards Phil, but as you say, it could be the scope.
  17. Surprisingly JSB express were poor in my hw99s, it doesn’t like them at all. I don’t know if they’re the same pellet as AA express? They work well in my mk1 rapid though. But both of these are .22
  18. I was going to pick some of those up before the lockdown, but I kept leaving it until I’d used some bits and bobs up and by that time they sold out anyway. My bad? hopefully find some later in the year to try??
  19. So you got one at last Phil. I know that you don’t like rws pellets, but all the hw spring rifles I’ve had have really liked rws hobby. Out to 30 yards at least, my hw99s is absolutely spot on with them, and they’re relatively cheap. The hw57 reminds me of my old bsa merlin, with its pop up loading port. The hw57 is obviously a much more refined rifle than the old merlin though.
  20. Good result SD? just out of interest, what ammo are you using in the marlin?
  21. Has XTX air finished as well? I think I saw something about it a while back.
