  1. Morning sir. You have peace, peace from walkers, vegans and tree huggers, louts on scramblers. You have proper dark skies, ducks and geese. Deer, grouse and excellent fishing. You got it good up there bro, promise.
  2. Think the longest yesterday was 25+yards and the closest was about 7. The little tough squirrel needs a few pellets that still have some speed to them. I like being under 30 yards. 20g and larger has the edge beyond that due to the ability of several pellets on target but getting close is the fun part!
  3. Did some decoying today, no not squirrels, other stuff, between the rains. Spent the afternoon with my Mrs and G'daughter and then popped out to walk a slang of beeches. 7 down to the 410. I used some Hull game and clay #6 11g loads and they are quite punchy with a corresponding report despite the moderator. Not enough to really disturb the next target, they must think it's in the distance! Fun is a .410 ?
  4. Yes sir, that's a good load 4895 is fantastic but getting scarce. I use to get 3160fps with 110grn bullets out of my 20" barreled 308. The case was brimmed! Many a cartridge can expand on book values with carful loading and the right powder.
  5. Every bull that came up to me got me kicking it in the nose, they never came up to me again! Cows with calf's I keep an eye on and no dog should be on a lead if near cows with calves. If the dog can't be off a lead near cows with calves shoot the bloody unruly dog and get a book about dog training.
  6. Late to the party sorry and not read all.... Personally I would not try to use the same powder for the two Dave. It's a compromise that way. 223 will work best with powders slightly faster than powders ideal for 243. By faster I mean burn rates not bullet velocity. Folks I know that try this were never happy with the results! My preference is for extruded powders over spherical, pencils or kernals instead of tiny balls or squashed balls. There are many cross reference charts on line so H322- H4895 for the 223 or the brands in that range and H4350 for 243 or e
  7. All they are doing is covering their arses from imagined possible blame at your/our expense. Politicians are very good at passing the book on and making the very people that they are supposed to be serving, the same people that pay their wages too, suffer.
  8. Nature is humbling and therefore refreshing compared to this dog eat dog mad world with hot topics of gay marriage, gender reassignment and Brexit. Nature is the only grounded constant left!
  9. I did consider oiling them once but thought better of it!
  10. Yes the birds going up to roost is a fantastic experience. And coming off roost too. Have a good season friend. SD.
  11. Ok, just checked the scales and it seems they are a kilo shy. So that would make him around 17lb. SD.
  12. What a gorgeous day! Had a great time scouting and hunting rabbit. The .45 soon had two in the bag. SD.
  13. How it goes sometimes, it would get boring otherwise.
  14. More like a slow worm mate! The irony is a shotgun would of been easier but had I taken one it would of been yards out wouldn't it be!
  15. I trotted back with some old dodgy scales. He's pretty large but normal around here.
  16. To be honest I did wonder about going and fetching some scales but I hadne had me tea!
  17. After a squirrel session last night I checked a cut grass field just gone dark and yep there was a fox so tonight I sat and watched it go dark. Pheasants went to roost and bats and owls swooped and called into the tree just 22 yards into the field from the oak I was sat against in the hedge. From nowhere this large fox trotted left to right. As it was 30yds away it went behind the tree in front of me. In a single swift movement the safety came off and the the rifle was mounted. Turned out the fox came to the tree and came around to my side now staring straight at me. In a split
  18. Good stuff. I saw my ghost fox on some cut grass I visited on the way home from a squirrel session. " I'll be back" before dusk!.
  19. My probation was three years. I just asked the landowner at other locations if a rifle had been used there before. Pretty much all said yes so that was good to go how I understood the conditions.
  20. Good you found a pattern of his rout. Early mornings are good. I regularly get fox's traveling a fence line between woods. As soon as I notice activity I'm there and watch it come light. Had a few like that with all sorts of guns.
  21. Yep, a cow is worse than any bull in my experience. Mend well buddy.
