I just got back from checking maize cut today. One tiny fox, lamp shy and to ir. Oh great....here we go again!
-
Somes coming off just down the road so hopefully I will get something at night and in the day.
-
Not curly enough and didn't smell of fish!
-
Seven here, but I've only been trying for 35 years.
-
Poor Bernard. A man of my own heart.

So I went back and looked for an injured fox with the dog. I found the wad. Then Jess found hair right by where I found the pattern of shot in the mossy grass. The hair when balled had a ginger colure and smells of fox ( or maybe brut!). On reflection the fast trotting fox, although side on, I think I shot behind it and got tail hair for my amateurs cock up of a shot. We scoured the area for over an hour but my dog never found anything. I gave her free reign to go look. She could smell the line the fox came in on and the route it took after the shot but that was

Don't bloody start that off again! This was somewhere else. Several miles away from my few roe.

Well flaming Nora Ben! Your bad karma has rubbed off on me! To lazy to take a rifle I take a shotgun and torch. Visit a place several miles away and call a fox in. Comes in perfect, I lit it up and whilst broadside fire 36g of #2 shot at it. Nothing! I don't know what happened at all! What I do know is that now I have got to go back tomorrow! To my eternal shame I have missed this fox twice now. It won't ever come to me ever ever again. The only good thing about tonight is that I could hear a fallow buck grunting not far away. Just need that maize off. Thanks

Nice and quiet around here just now. Clobbered the vixens for a few years now and it shows. Even established runs seem to have stopped. New settlers will arrive soon, especially when the maize comes off.

The background info puts a different slant on it.....mardy.?
-
A bit of background. They were cubs from on a neighboring pheasant shoot I have no control over. I have to keep patroling my patch waiting for their foxes to come on to me. That night I got lucky. The one missed is still at large but I need the maize off. Possibly next week.
-
To be honest, if I had ten foxes running around on my patch I would be embarrassed! ?
-
Tungsten matrix my friend.
-
Doing my bit. I realised whilst cutting TM shot out of some cartridges to use on the geese should I get chance that instead of destroying the primed, powdered and wadded hulls I should load them back up! So I've recycled them. Eat your heart out cronemberg, or what ever her name is!

Anyone going to the Midland game fair tomorrow?

Duck dri is good gear. I have one of their ventile coats. Still good. Must be 20years old! The rabbit hunt went well my friend. Bonus squirrel too. -

Tried to tell you! -
I remember being out after a day of snow then a frozen moonlit night. I sat in a high seat box. Flask and small blanket over my legs. I saw fox and deer hundreds of yards away in my binos. Crows were flying around from tree to tree. It was a surreal world. Oh, and I did get a shot at the fox but missed ?

Mate I understand. I got problems too. I really makes it difficult and depressing. I struggle to walk far now. The pain smothers the enthusiasm. Gone are the days I leap out of bed, clothes on and out. Now I'm like a knackered spluttering diesel genny on a cold winter's morning. Spluttering, grumbling and shaking.

Don't bathe for a week. The fox's will fly to you then. They like half rotten flesh dripping in secretions of fish like smelling fluids. And no blue stratos. -

I'm not. I been disappointed the last few times. I'll be in the woods somewhere looking for a rabbit. -

Jimney or gator thing. Anything with a cab and wheel. I know. Lads get used to them but they have no heater! I rode to work in winter for years. Not doing it again! -

I hate quads, nearly lost one down the side of a Scottish hill with a big hind on the back! The shouldn't have handle bars but a steering wheel instead. Bloody dangerous and when it rains you get soaked. Junk. If I had a shoot to look after I'd ask for an old jimney! Glad your ok. If nettles stings are bad take a sprig of thistle, lay it in the crotch of your pants and pull them up quickly. No more nettle stinging! -
Thanks Wolfie but I really do not want to go the casting rout. I could get a used Lee mold tomorrow. It looks to be 130gn round nose gas checked. I'd rather just scavenge jacketed bullets. I'll just reverse them if they are too pointy.

Want to see something...... different?

Good fun. Those weights will knock the snot out of critters. Cheap loading, good case life. What's not to like ?
