  1. Did better than us, one rabbit for two hours walking. All that wind and cloud just vanished as soon as we got there. Gave it up as a bad job in the end, should have had an early night instead.

    africa..

If you make it as far as Tanzania let me know, got a house out there. Could maybe sort you out for a couple of nights? Enjoy it, most the people knocking it have probabley never been there. Africa is extreme, either amazing or awful, seldom anything inbetween
  3. At least you admit you werent sure, wasnt long ago one of the airgun lads put up a picture of a dead rabbit and insisted it was a hare. Argued the toss for about five pages lol. Sometimes you just have to laugh or you'd cry.
  4. Cheers, its all thanks to my new posh phone, if only i knew how to work the rest of it! lol
  5. the lad was asking for advice and was doing the right thing for asking they say about us youth today having attitude problems did you read he said no digs because he is NEW to the game and wanted advice he obviously wants dogs he got a dog and he obviously wants to put time into the dog hence why he was asking for advice on here ffs some people arnt born knowing it all unfortunatly Alright, alright .... apologies Twitch . I was in a foul mood this morning and my reply was a bit sharp. I stand by what i said though, cutting the pup is not a "fix all" solution, time and training is the ans
  6. If you are seriously considering cutting a 22 week pup because you cant make it behave then maybe dogs aint for you? Put the time into training or give it to someone who will
  7. Nice write up mate. Just back in from another night with Willow, an hour out, three in the bag but got back to the van and found its stuck in the gateway. Joy . Midnight call to a very understanding mate and we're sorted. Im wrecked, took Parker out last night and was beating today. Really need to get some work done tomorrow . I'll get some pictures up from the weekend tomorrow. Thanks again for a great time
  8. Got your book from Penny on the way back too. When you about?
  9. Wecome to the forum, never heard of a basenji bred lurcher but he may not have the variety of stud dogs to choose fromover there. If he's seen the dog catch and its impressed him enough to ask for a line then why not? It would be different if yours was a bitch and you had all the work of the pups but if he's keen and your happy cant see a major problem. Your dog will probably enjoy it too lol!
  10. I've just come back from a weekend spent in Lincs staying with Sussex Poacher from here. I was made very welcome and it was great to see the dogs family reunion! We had a nice couple of days ferreting and a couple of nights lamping, one in lincs and one in norfolk, really nice to work the dog in a different part of the world and it was just a shame about the early injuries. I am sure there will be a post coming from him with all the details and some pics. I just wanted to get my "Thank you" in first!!!
  11. Hes a good lad, ran the legs off him last night and he really struggled to connect though. Its funny, the pup does well and catches fine on her own but seems to leave alot of it to him if they're worked together. I dont know if its a hierarchy thing or ifs shes just a lazy bitch lol
  12. The problems been solved now, I have been warned that i am under no circumstances to buy any until after christmas. I therefore assume someone has bought me some which is nice. Hopefully this thread got read and the links taken from it. Thanks for all the replies
  13. The bag i posted above is a similar idea, its only a very small rucksack, the kind kids put school books in, and i built the box to fit inside it. Once the box was in i just melted through the rucksack in line with the air holes in the box. To look at it you'd never know it was a ferret box, the only drawback would be if they started scratching at the wrong moment lol. Its not happened yet though and i've used in a few places.
  14. I have a particular bit of ground thats had me a few times. All flat reclaimed land but cut through all over with deep identical dykes. I've been going there years and know it well but every now and again, either at night or when fog comes in in the day, it gets me. As soon as you loose where you are your screwed, even if you know where your trying to get to, navigating by far off lights etc, you get cut off by the dykes. They are about 8 foot wide and up to 6 foot deep with high sloping banks so almost impossible to cross. They run for miles out there and the bridges are just concrete beams l
  15. One of these, ferrets in the box, nets on top, a garden trowel and dog at heel. Works well.
  16. Cheers mate - it's a remi 700 varmint but the barrel has been cut down to take a couple of extra pounds off the weight. Still makes you feel it after a while though. He wasn't the heaviest fox but he did have a big old head on him - as for skinning him it was discussed at the time but I get enough grief off the wife for having antlers about the place let alone a fox skin with that oh-so-fresh aroma! Thats a shame, my missus was the same but as long as shes not involved in the process she quite likes the end product. They certainly keep your feet warm when you get out of bed on those
  17. Getting lost isnt funny. You always laugh about it after but at the time it can be a right shitter. Its happened to me a couple of times in fog on some big open land i have, no landmarks, loads of deep ditches, its very easy to get turned around. I did it the other day out for as mooch, I was exploring some waste land, reedbeds with little hidden grass clearings all divided up by drainages ditches and willow woods. Loads of rabbits about and i lost track of time, it was getting dark and i was stuck. I knew where i wanted to go but kept getting cut off by the ditches and couldnt see where i'd g
  18. Thats sounds better than sharing the back of a chilly van with two dogs and two ferrets!
  19. Should have skinned him, they make lovely rugs.
  20. You can see why the dogs struggled, the holes were very close together! Definately a job for the longnets next time!
  21. I've had an interesting couple of days. I had to drop something to a clients a couple hours away near some permission i have so thought i'd get it dealt with early then have a couple of hours ferreting as i dont get down there that often. It didnt work out that way and i ended up being held up, didnt drop the steering arm off til 3 and needed to come back the next day to pick something else up. I had a bit of a rethink and decided to extend the trip, kip in the van on the permission, do some lamping and ferret in the morning. By the time i got there i still had an hour of light so got the
