  1. Checked it today and ....... f*ck all Obviously either bait is wrong, place is wrong or something else is wrong. Will try again and let you know. Any advice greatly appreiciated
  2. Good looking dog, enjoy her
  3. A very useful tool, especially when lamping. Height depends on your height, whatever is comfortable. We use one (when lamping one of us shoots and the other lamps and works the dog) made of hazel topped off with a metal "U" cushioned with a bit of pipe lagging. its also useful to fit a foot spike and stopper to stop it sinking into the mud. You can also use two longer sticks tied 6" from the top with innertube rubber as a full height bipod. The down side of both these things is that you have to carry them! No fun trying to carry gun, lamp, battery pack, rabbits, shooting stick, dog le
  4. i put my one out just now, baited with some minced offal i had for the dogs. How long should i leave it before checking? Fingers crossed!
  5. I am in Surrey mate, not to far from Horsham. They are in most places, so there shouldnt be much of a problem finding them. If they are there, then where shouldnt be any problem catching them. Good luck with it Not far from me at all! Horsham is about 15 mins away. Good to know im in the right area, just a quick question, is it just rivers and streams or is it worth trying ponds and lakes too? Cheers
  6. Thanks, we will be out again tonight as long as it dosent bucket down. if it stays like it is it should be ideal. Here she is, lookng totally uninterested, last night after we got back.
  7. Went out for a shine on my own with Tyla, we only saw one bunny and she caught it, after turning him twice he just made the hedge but she dived in and pulled him out! it was her first on the lamp, may not seem much when you look at some of the bags on here but im well chuffed. Shes 10 mths old and i've been bringing her on slowly as shes my first lurcher and dont know any one with dogs for her to learn from. Shes had some very near misses at night, a couple in daytime and some shot with the air rifle but this was done properly on her own. Hopefully the first of many! Will post a photo tomorr
  8. Without being too specific, where abouts are you? i've never been interested in freshwater fishing so dont even know if they are around here (Mid Sussex) but would be nice to know im not wasting my time! i will give it another go this weekend and post any results.
  9. i thought it was a summer only thing, obviously not! i have never caught anything but eels when i've tried so im no expert! i will have to have another go at it
  10. Caught a few young ones throughout the winter. i reckon they breed all year round if the conditions allow, round here anyway. This winter has been so mild this year theres been little to stop them.
  11. Thanks for all the replies everyone, been very informative. i will keepyou posted, wont be leaving for a while but i feel a few exploratory holidays coming up!
  12. Hmm .... got me thinking now. Was thinking spain or portugal but Canada looks amazing. Anyone know about the entry requirements?
  13. Well, thats Lincs out then ..... any other suggestions?
  14. Ok, i've had enough of england and all the bullsh*t. Where is the best place to live? i've tried Africa and it didn't work out. i love the outdoors, hunting etc and my OH is right into horses. We would need to be able to take dogs and either work there or split time between working here and living there. i am a carpenter ans she does office work and horses. Any ideas?
  15. i disagree. My dogs sit and wait before eating, go to bed while we eat and wouldnt bat an eyelid if i took the food out of their mouths. i am in charge and they know it, that dog is badly trained and unsure of its place in the pack which leads to bad behaviour. it all goes back to pack etiquette, you wouldnt expect the alpha animal to tolerate that so why should i?
  16. I have a silenced Cooey .410. Its very quiet with 2" carts but personally I cant hit a barn door with it! My mate does fine with it though so I reckon its down to the individual
  17. if its the .20 your getting rid of then i might be interested

    youre job

I'm training to be a carpenter at the moment, absolutley love it... if you can find an apprenticeship do it... or go to college and work hard , get the lecturers on your side, and they'll put the oppurtunities your way if you are willing to do the work and wont make them look like tossers... Same here. its my second career, used to run a marketing company which made me shit loads of money but i hated it!!! The only thing i would change is the hours, there just are not enough of them to go round between work, missus, dogs, shooting etc! i love the job though which is the main thing
  19. Yep, whatevers left after the season is left to breed as wild stock assuming nothing eats them! We used to thin out the cocks at the end of the season because if you have too many they stress the hens out fighting over them in the spring. Later in the year, if your incubating your own, a few birds are caught up and kept in a laying pen to provide eggs for net years stock. Hope that helped
  20. Sorry to hear about your gun, do NOT use a rust remover as it will also remove your blueing which i assume you dont want! Oily rag and elbow grease is the best way i think. Good luck!
  21. You live in a stunning place, it would be lovely to be somewhere thats not so overpopulated! Here is a pic of a deer park near here (SE UK)

Cheers mate, will do! i have a house in Zanzibar and have been between there and here for the past few years with the odd trip to Zim or Moz. i think i will be in the UK for a while now though but i would love to see what you do on my next trip. Same goes if your ever in the UK. Happy Hunting!
  23. i've had a couple, walking the dogs on a dark night in an area i have known since being a kid and they are out running about then suddenly both kick off barking and snarling. i think "f**k, what've they got hold of now?" Cant see anything coz its dark then all of a sudden they are both back and getting behind my legs still kicking off but backing up rapidly. Thats not normal so i didnt hand about ran allthe way home and nearly killed myself on the way (got to stop smoking!) Another time was out with the air gun and lamp, had about an hours shooting then the lamp starts to fade. Keep going
