  1. Learn something new everyday! Cheers guys
  2. it states on here that hounds flush to birds of prey, is that right? Sounds to me like the media getting confused? i only follow the hunt once or twice a year so im no expert but i've never heard of this, anyone know any more about it? http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20081226/tuk-f...rt-6323e80.html
  3. Been fighting it the last few days but i finally gave up today as christmas is out the way. Spent the day on the sofa felling shitty and watching the wind get up. Perfect weather for a shine tonight, bloody typical

Thats fair enough mate. i know you've taken people out in the past and its good to see the knowledge getting passed around. its just a shame not everyone gets that chance but that is life. i have no problem with learning, thats what i was trying to say in my first post, and trial and error is my only option for the moment. im not complaining though, Tyla is coming on well enough for now

inexperienced with lurchers. im 29, been living in the country, hunting, ferreting, shooting with both shotty and airgun all my life. i trained as and used to work as a keeper in my late teens and owned and trained my own beating and peg dogs. i have a 21mth bitsa bitch, a young JRTxwhippet and the four ferrets, im out on the lamp most night the weather is any good for it and out with the ferrets every weekend. Unfortunately i have to work in the week though As for buying a computer then going hunting, you couldnt be further off the mark i was hunting years before i knew how to t

i would like mine to take rabbits night and day, work well with ferrets and nets, take roe (where legal) and be obedient and reliable around stock and people. My bitch is my first lurcher and as i dont know any experienced dogmen i've trained her with a mix of common sense and advice off here. So far so good, only real difficulties now are retrieving and a bit hard mouthed, shes good with everything else although i wouldnt know where to start with deer even if it were legal i'm sure she is capable of more if i knew what to do but im reasonably happy with her progress.
  9. i would be very interested. More in the running dogs than the digging and particularly in running dogs from horse back, its something my missus has always wanted to do. Any idea of the costs?
  10. Have you tried webley?
  11. He gets out there and does it, were youout today? if you were wheres your post? if you werent why not get out there instead of having a pop at people who do? Just an observation do you know what ned means mate is that stupid person trying to mug me off ? i think it means chav. ignore him mate, obviously not got anything else to say. Like i said, you are out there doing it and he sitting at home taking the piss on the internet. i dont think it matters if you wear trainers and hoody or barbour jacket and plus fours as long as you go about things the right way and have r

  13. im after another couple of collars, four ferrets and one collar can be time consuming . Does anywhere do deals on them or has anyone got any to sell? Thanks
  14. Not bad going mate. i was out earlier to do a bury in the garden of one of my landowners. it was a right pig, deep, covered in brambles and only got two out but he was happy enough. Too mild here so most of the rabbits seem to be living out, dogs flushed a few when we had a walk round later but missed them all Happy Christmas all!
  15. Eastbournes not far, cant see why not As for her being too big for ferreting, not so sure. She might be a bit tall but theres no reason she cant mark, hold rabbits in the nets and grab the odd bolter? i used to ferret with our familys old pet collie and she wasnt ideal but alot better than no dog at all! ok tyla hi whats the best way to start sasha on rabbits.reg Try her on the lamp? Or out ferreting? What experience has she had?
  16. The ones in the pics are not so deep, it was the ones the day before with no pics that are really bad. Ancient woodland and hedgerows, deep warrens, tree roots, not many rabbits and lots of brambles - it can be a challenge! Thats why we drove to kent for an easy day. Deepest reading there was 6 foot although the ground is very stony, lots of bunnies though and no f*cking brambles! i think i will be back there boxing day!
  17. i much prefer to bolt rabbits given the option but i am happy to dig when necessary. To get a rabbit 4 - 5 foot is the maximum though, alot of the buries on my ground go off the scale on the locator so i do have to leave them sometimes. The ferrets are a different matter though, i would do whatever was needed to get them back. My worse dig last season was 6 foot to the collar which on of the little darlings had got out of. This seasons was day before yesterday, 4 foot to a stop end and two rabbits.
  18. Out lamping with my mates dogs about 10 years ago, i had my single 20b in case of a chance at a fox. We walked past a wood and a couple of pigeons flew out, my mate put the lamp on one and i shot it without even thinking. Totally instinctive shot, didnt even get the gun into my shoulder - i dont know who was more suprised, him, me or the pigeon!
  19. The one shown in my pics is the same as the rolson i think. it came from screwfix and is made by roughneck. As i said before im very impressed with it, certainly beats carrying a heavy graft around
  20. Yep, a screwfix micro shovel, under a tenner. im very impressed, super light, seems strong and very easy to dig with means you can keep a nice narrow hole and still work at the bottom. All that said, im still not going to dig 16 foot with it ! Some of these warrens are unreal, they are in ancient woodland and hedges and some have probably been there for centuries. Thanks stealthy, its not my first double ever though, just this season - been suffering a dearth of rabbits on my usual permission hence the change of venue! Oddly enough used to get good 30+ bags without making a dent from pla
  21. lol, thats not me thats my pal, it does look like it but no, i dont think he is! i wouldnt be too pleased with him p*ssing in the ferrets box!
  22. Looks nice, good sized bags. Do you have closed season for the introduced species or just the natives?
