  1. My 22 month old lurcher bitch has been acting very strangely. i cant work out what is causing it, unless its caused by her season, and would really appreiciate some advice. Before this started she was working well, obedient and devoted to me. i will list the facts/problems below. She was in season over christmas and that is when she started to change She has also been layed up with an injury for the past three weeks and has only just been allowed off lead She seems unwilling to get in or out of the van She seems to have lost interest in everything and just skulks about She

  3. Me too, how much and any pics? Thanks
  4. Some good replies, thanks people. Now its just a case of keeping a look out for the right dog.
  5. Out most weekends. Tyla half tore off her stopper pad, nearly healed now though. Shes had a crap season, spent half of it injured she seems to be very accident prone but otherwise shes coming on well. Parker is turning into a dog ferreting dog too but he is still young. Whats the night with the experts? Sounds interesting and fareham is not far?
  6. Me and my mate took a trip to kent today for a bit of ferreting. Had to leave Tyla at home as she still has stitches from her most recent injury but had Parker who is coming on better every trip. First two buries were right under a blackthorn bush and produced four bolters and two dug to. Had to leave one behind as the tiny jill killed it under the trunk about 5 foot down and we just couldnt get through the roots. The amount of thorns we got doing those two sets put us off purse nets so the next two were longnet only. First set produced two straight into the net but I dropped one wh
  7. Good going mate, looks like you had a good day
  8. Hows her leg mate? Was a shame you couldnt make it today, we had some good sport. 12 bunnies with the ferrets in the morning and a couple more with the shotty while having a mouch in the afternoon. Had a couple of shots at duck too but missed
  9. Roadside verges belong to the highways commission i think. Either way you would be asking for trouble IMO.
  10. The weather here is absolutely perfect, blowing a gale and drizzling. Got a brand new bit of permission only couple of miles from home too and its heaving with rabbits. Only problem - both dogs are off work - GUTTED!
  11. I've not been out with the air rifle in ages, been spending all my time with the dogs and ferrets, but both dogs are knocked up and had a spare hour this afternoon so i thought i'd have a crack. It was quite nice just to be me and the gun rather than all the odds and sods that you take ferreting. I arrived about 3 and there were a few rabbits out feeding, dosent seem to matter what time of day on this place there always a couple out. Managed to miss the first one in front of the land owner, luckily i know her quite well so she didnt care. Walked a bit further on and missed another
  12. Good luck mate, enjoy yourselves and let us know how it goes!
  13. The jrt x whippet i put up before was an accidental mating when doga's working jrt got over his whippet. We got one because Amy liked the sound of them and its turned out quite well. Doga kept one of the pups and weejohn has another, they are all turning into respectable rabbit dogs as far as I know. Ours works on the lamp but dosent often get out as my lurcher bitch is better but he does excel at ferreting and has become an important part of my team. Would a whippet be better? I've no idea as i've never owned one so maybe or maybe not! Im not sure if i would want to try the whippet o
  14. Not a border whippet but a jrt whippet, hes turning out to be a good ferreting dog
  15. Thats an impressive pack Dave, i've seen your posts on rabbiters, looks like they are doing the job! How did you bring them on?
  16. Someone else got the bitch pup before i got to see it so thats a non starter Still, not bothered about waiting to get the right dog. Im really only interested in rabbits and dont want a dog that goes to ground as there are plenty of badger setts about on my permissions. Spaniel x terrier sounds the way forward although i dont want anything too big. Your border bitch is a beauty the fezz
  17. Stunning pictures comanche. My other half is from that way, its a beautiful area. Often take the dogs up there in the summer.
  18. Travellers are no different to any other folk, theres good 'uns and bad 'uns in all. Certainly dosent help with comments like that. Thats whats good about being young - you know everything its just when you get a bit older you realize that, even though you know more than you did, you still dont know shit!
  19. Its the being out that counts! Both my dogs are layed up at the moment, its driving me nuts
  20. Some cracking dogs, so it sems a mix of terrier, spaniel and beagle is the favorite. I have been offered a black and tan bitch puppy, both sire and dam are jack russel based, rough coated leggy terrier crosses and although they are not worked they live at a livery yard and kill plenty of rats and rabbits. Im off to have a look at the weekend.
  21. Cheers guys, how would you enter them? Both the dogs hunt up all the time when out walking and i expect a new one would follow suit but hopefully get in places where they cant/wont. Obviously obedience and retrieve but what else goes into the training to bush?
  22. As above, I've been thinking of getting one as neither of the lurchers is all that good in thick cover. I'd like something small enough to work the brambles and flush to the lurchers. What do you recommend? Thanks
  23. I have three jills and a snipped hob all living together and have not had any problems yet. I was a bit cautious at first but they all seem to get along fine, they are in a big run though so not under each others feet.
  24. My bitch does the same after her season, skulks around looking sorry for herself and stealing things. i didnt know to slacken off the work after 6 weeks though, very useful - thanks skycat Hotdog - are you still wanting to go lamping or ferreting sometime?
