  1. Back to the sheep farm last night as I’d seen a fox on the morning, the weather seemed almost perfect, if not a little warm, seen absolutely nothing but a handful of rabbits, weird how it goes sometimes
  2. I’ve just had a text off Mosh telling me he was out this morning with someone who looked exactly like me, the only way he could tell it wasn’t me was this lad could shoot ?
  3. A lovely little walk around the sheep farm with my mate Mosh this morning, first off around the sheds where I managed 3 feral pigeons for 3 shots, I think Mosh was just as shocked as me that I’m actually hitting a few things. Then it was off around the hedge backs to see what was about, we flushed half a dozen partridges and 4 pheasants but as it’s Sunday we let them be, the rabbits weren’t so lucky, I had 2 running through the rape and connected with them both, then as we past a big oak tree a squirrel made a break for it and I nailed that to the tree, I can’t tell you the last time I shot th
  4. 7 pheasants and a woodcock is a cracking day out and sounds a lot like a full season for me with my terrible shotgun handling, I’d be telling everyone if I’d hit the woodcock, never mind all them pheasants, I bet he’s chuffed to bits and will remember it forever ?
  5. m on maybe 30ish, to be fair I haven’t done the area’s I normally do with the shoot taking up most of my time and a chunk of them were when I went down to Lincolnshire I’ve just had a count up and it’s 21, not 30ish, that’s not very good, I’ll have to go out tonight and see if I can add to it ?
  6. I’m on maybe 30ish, to be fair I haven’t done the area’s I normally do with the shoot taking up most of my time and a chunk of them were when I went down to Lincolnshire you should of asked for one to match your pj’s ?
  7. Just a little walk around longshanx’s place tonight for some long range rabbits with the .17’s, not loads about but enough to have a go at and at some good distances, a lovely crisp, cold night, even though the moon was a bit of a pain
  8. I’d maybe help him out if he’d let me shoot in the forestry but you can’t expect me to give you the information for free ? I’ve heard a couple around me, but I think the locals would have something to say if I start calling on the cycle path
  9. ? good curry doesn’t need meat
  10. On my own today so I’ve gone cauliflower and spinach curry from scratch, very nice ?
  11. Feeding again this morning and I was there for first light, it was a lovely still, cold morning, deathly quiet, just with the odd pheasant call to break the silence, after feeding I was heading back to the farm and I bumped into the ranger, now he’s a lovely lad but he does ask to many questions, he was asking about deer numbers in certain areas, so I did what any responsible keeper would do and sent him in completely the wrong direction to where I’ve been seeing them around our fields ??
  12. I’ve only done it once where I took a lad out on one of my spots, told him not to go on there without me and he did just that, so I’ll never do it again, 90% of the land I have permission on now I used to poach, if I’d known the owner back then I might of thought better of it, only a few weeks ago his lad rang him to say there was lads on the fields with dogs, he flew up in the Land Rover, didn’t give them chance to explain themselves, just battered the pair of them ?
  13. On that note, I don’t have a problem with dog lads, it’s how I started out and we would run anything ( this will of been early 90’s ) what drives me mental is when they drive across fields and through gates, when I was up at the shoot yesterday I passed a field on the boundary and they had been on it with a motor, the crop damage was stupid, in all the years me and Mosh did it we never once did any damage and wouldn’t dream of taking a motor across someone’s crop
  14. They are a good fox bait, saying that I bet you could sh*t in a bag and a ginger would carry it off
  15. That big bugger would have the dog in a head lock ?
  16. Look at the bicep on him, it’s a good job I was armed, I wouldn’t want to go toe to toe with him ?
  17. Yeah, as in like a hand, this chap was what we know up here as fish tailed because it doesn’t have fingers ( tines ) sticking out, you don’t see many like this around here at all, most of them aren’t even palmated
  18. Feeding this morning before it got to wild, it was very cold ? up there and the birds were sitting very tight in the thick cover, they were also in the dark / dry wood drives, now we are heading into the depth of winter the amount of drives I have become limited but the 4 main drives ( piggeries tree side and ruff side, forestry pen and Gordon’s pen ) become better for the next couple of shoots, the amount of tree rats is ridiculous, it doesn’t matter how many I shoot it doesn’t look like I’ve shot any, I’m going to treat the young guns to a squizzer day in February. I also checked my camera a
  19. That’s how I used to do it until I read the spud thing in a cook book ?
  20. Pot roast beef today, gravy made from all the gubbins in the pot ( little tip, don’t use flour in your gravy, when doing it in a pot put a good size spud in, when I blend it all it thickens the gravy ?)
  21. Day 3 over and done with, it was one of the best days we’ve had ( so all the messages are saying), drive number one was the usual tip drive, from the off the birds were getting up over the guns at a good height and continued to get up right til the very end of the drive, drive two, Gordon’s pen, now although this drive is next to the tip drive and we knew some birds would of moved out from it, there was still a good show and the guns that were down on the forestry track had some very high fast birds over them. Now time for elevenses, soup, sausages with red onions, chocolate cakes and sloe gin
  22. Chicken and leek pie, new spuds, carrots, cavolo nero and a cream and white wine sauce ?
