Just what is your issue? Fox Hunting ISN'T illegal. Certain aspects of the Hunting Act (which isn't just about foxes) lays down rules about the way you can hunt the fox, and other animals. If you took the time to digest it or looked back at the number of hunts and massive support for them over the Christmas/New Year period you will find there are plenty of legal ways to hunt!

I think you are on the wrong site!

I'm against a lot of things but if, for example, I joined a forum on Gay marriage and went in with a comment about being against it I'd probably be in for a hard time.. There seems very little point in walking into the Lions Den unless you have an agenda.
-
I'm not interested in any name calling but I really don't follow your comments. This is The HUNTING life forum, Shooting, Gamekeeping, Gun Dogs and Country Life. We debate, we discuss, we argue, but we don't go round knocking the Hunting life!

I mentioned on another thread, I rarely find the need for them these days, seems I use other traps more frequently, to the extent I have to stop and think how to set them on the rare occasions I get them out. As for dangerous, never seen them that way, I have a healthy respect for the Kania though!
-
It must be at least 12 years ago I last used warfarin for squirrels, live traps or Kanias are my main control these days with the odd few shot. Traps can be a pain but client input can help!

Looks good!

We live in a strange world with this shooting Malarkey...it seems your region may force you to have a CF (.223 apparently), they may not accept a rimfire, even though their Head Office (the Home Office) say it will be fine. I shoot for a living as well as fun and also target, I have a lot of guns and I take out what I need for any job/land/quarry, I also do site surveys (Google Earth very helpful these days), I don't just get a fox job and say that's .223, I use what I need, and for me and fox, that is FAR more often a rimfire than a CF. Good luck.

AOLQ ...Any Other Lawful Quarry, sometimes called ALQ ..Any Lawful Quarry. Many regions use it now, mine has for about 10 years, MUCH better than having everything listed (or not as may be the case)!

The Home Office consider Fox to be Vermin, as I also said they are very happy to accept HMR and WMR for fox, even .22lr in the right circumstances, this may be an interesting read...… https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518193/Guidance_on_Firearms_Licensing_Law_April_2016_v20.pdf Page 122. Just the same, no point in getting to entrenched here, it would have been a lot simpler if your condition had been AOLQ; such is life. Personally, I still shoot a lot of fox with my .22Lr but they do tend to be close, and usually in

As a matter of interest what does your condition for .22lr actually read? Ok, as I mentioned earlier, .22LR not really for Magies/crows for me, obviously they work but either Air or HMR (Shotgun as well of course) would generally be my preference. The HMR will also deal with the fox, so that seems a fair option for all 3 quarry on 40 acres. Good luck whatever happens!
-
Is this about FOX now or Fox, Magpie, Crow? So, from .22lr (circa 100-150Ft Lb) to .223 (circa 1300ft lb) IDIOTS!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with .223 for fox, and some regions apparently prefer CF for Fox, usual stupid policy without looking at specifics. I have no use for centrefires on fox at normal fox distances, only as the range increases, but seeing as its a fox and you can track/train them pretty easily, especially on 40 acres I'm not following the CF argument at all! The Home Office is perfectly happy with HMR and WMR for fox, even .22lr in some situations. What

Every calibre is effected by the wind, and it isn't windy every second of every day. Despite popular suggestion the HMR is LESS wind effected than the .22lr and the WMR can be better still! Sorry, I just don't get it needs a .22CF to shoot magpies or crows because it blows a bit. I've never heard anyone say I have no choice but to use a 22-250 or even my .243 (as has been suggested here) for crows and magpies because it's windy! Live with the wind and learn to work with it, spend some time practising! He has 40 acres of undulating and flat land apparently, that simply
-
What am I missing here, he said 40 acres and Crows, Magpies and foxes!? Talk of proper .22CF is beyond me, especially 22-250 or 243, just possibly .22Hornet or perhaps more likely 17 Hornet. I don't really see .22lr for Crows and magpies, more likely Air or HMR. HMR is VERY capable of fox out to the distances most foxes are taken, and this is obviously not 1000's of acres of moorland so I don't immediately see why a long range CF is required! So, what's wrong with HMR or WMR?
-
YOUR region covers this, no other region, your FAC is dealt with 100% by your region, it doesn't matter if your land is in Scotland, YOUR region deal with it.
-
The farmer wants foxes, crows and magpies shooting ! I don't know anyone who use a .22 CF of any sort for crows and magpies, and foxes fall easily to HMR/WMR our to about 130 yards!
-
Maybe a Hornet but Id be happier with the HMR or WMR!

Foxing never used to be this difficult

It's always a real buzz when you see those fox eyes in the field full of sheep and a few moments later they are dealt with. -
So, here's what actually happened...…………………. We had a hunt route pretty well mapped out but were concerned about the fox welfare and complying with the Act. We knew fox lived on the route but didn't know if he was home, so sent a team to investigate, They found he was home, and in a bid to protect him he was removed and set free before the hounds arrived. We left the team in the area just in case the fox wanted to return immediately or the dogs got bogged down in the area. It was a great hunt, everyone enjoyed themselves and no foxes were hurt in the process! Just saying!
-
It's not Plain enough for anything criminal to be proved or they would all have been fined/locked up. I hear what you are saying, but the Act is so woolly there are holes in it you can drive a bus through, and anyone who thinks you can't hunt foxes (like a good number of my clients) is very wrong. I still get calls from people with fox issues wanting to know how they can get rid of them because it's illegal to kill them. The fox is NOT protected, it is only protected from hunting in very limited and specific circumstances. Killing the fox is fine, but apparently getting dressed

What comic did you read that in??? That would be more than difficult as many .22lr START sub sonic and even HV will be sub sonic in fractions of a second after exiting the barrel, and most certainly after hitting anything and expending vast amounts of energy in the process of ricocheting! You will never get a ricochet (of any calibre) to INCREASE in speed to break the sound barrier, they decrease dramatically due to energy loss, if they were that fast to start with the boom will already have taken place, commonly circa 3-4 feet out of the barrel, they are slowing down not getting fast

Anyway, what is actually illegal about digging out a fox? Just after the ban my local hunt asked if I could get them a fox for a drag hunt, it wasn't difficult, I actually got them 2, then a character from the hunt strolled around the fields with them in a hessian sack. Perfectly legal, how do we know what happened to this fox?

I have my own Pest Control Company and I'm Secretary of a Club at Bisley! Not that I'm aware! -
Never used one, but they are near the top end of scope pricing and not something everyone wants/needs or can afford. Perhaps someone who has one will be along soon and enlighten us all!
