Sorry but I don't go with this, you are making a judgement on one shot and hearsay! There is lots of different .243 ammo as their is with .308, and with respect, just because you had one deer that walked off 150 yards before its demise I hardly think it appropriate to immediately write off .243 for deer. Years back when I was shooting in Scotland with professional stalkers, we took the dogs out to track the wounded deer, I was told they had tracked one for over a mile before it dropped ...and they only EVER used .308!!! A .243 will only drop them on the spot with "minimal meat dam

Not a clue about these but for £20 sound like it's worth a try! Let me know if they are any good and I might invest in one myself! Does sound a little short though, sort of benchrest size!
-
I suggest you dig around a lot as you are doing here! What distance at Bisley..are you a member of a club..ask the other members!!!??? From your list the .308 is the one I would suggest on the information supplied, lots of choice of ammo and some of it sensible prices! 270 is painful, and as with 30-06 they are not really target rounds, to be honest neither is .243 really, that said you can shoot any of them at targets if you want

Sounds like a real good couple of days!

The T8 is a great Mod, thats why we all know it, and it works quite well, problem is build quality/materials; I know what these are like and what they sound like as I have used them, but I have not used the Stealth! Hearsay suggests the build quality is better than a T8 but at around £100 more it should be. If you are after a mod around this shape and size think about the Wildcat Predator 8 as well, around £215.

First off, there is a NEW one, anyone tell me what the difference is between the old and new please? Second, honest views on clarity, build quality, reliability, value for money..you know ...is it any good, have you had any problems with it? Many thanks Deker

Couple of guys on here called guevara and wingshooter could have helped but they seem to have gone, I'm sure someone will give you some advice...

A .22 LR, a .22WMR, a Mach 2, a 17HMR ...........a .308, etc, etc are tools that do a job, look at the land, look at the quarry, look at the job you need to do and select the appropriate tool for the job! A 17HMR isn't BETTER that a 22LR and vice versa...they are different!

You're pulling it, something is not screwed on tight or something is loose inside the scope, the obvious answer is as above..put the old scope back on!

Yep..the boy done good ..but that's the idea, for some strange reason the police have made me his Deer Mentor so there is not a lot of point in me shooting them when we go out, (but it's hanging in MY shed now!! ), however, he very kindly let me shoot the fox! The deer was a great shot, you had to see it, it was like slow motion, he was dead before he fell down, not a kick or twitch, the ammo worked really well! Cheers

There you go..simple, assuming the pellets are lead/alloy they are MUCH MUCH softer than the barrel and generally you will have no problem in just shooting them out, but a cleaning rod should move them anyway
-
As long as you can shoot straight the same distance with all of them...give or take just a few inches! PS 12 and 20 are a Guage...410 is a size!

Where is Cheshier? Some financial crimes are viewed unfavourably, but as long as you were not locked up, or are not letting on the whole story, I would have thought you should be ok. As the saying goes ..have a word with the BASC..they should be abe to advise you!

i no a lad with a howa 243 mate its a nice bit of kit thats for sure. he told me the 1st thing he done was get the gunsmith to do a little work on the trigger and it was sorted. he said 10yards half inch groups pretty easy even with factory ammo. get this done he said and the rifes grouping improved over night Good though I am I don't often manage to get the fox and deer that close!

Snap Shot Personal View First ...I just don't see the TRG..it has absolutely no use except as a prone range gun! Second...I have not shot the Super Varmint but I have shot the Tactical and they are almost identical! Pretty much the same response as above, it might be called a Super Varmint but it weighs a ton and I see it a almost exclusively a Range gun. I would not want to be carting this around the fields for long and I don't see any chance of using it standing! But..we are all different..if that's what you are after, then as a gun I'd say it was very good, I shot the .223 Ta

Mine is the same mate. I rang Jackson Rifles to ask them about it but whoever I spoke to didn't have a clue what the hell he was on about. I told him that the anodise coating had been burnt off and the heat had started to melt the centre of the mod, after a long pause to said this is normal. I'm not convinced this level of damage is normal, what do you think? Check your paperwork for the Sak...I seem to recall it has a lifetime guarantee (or something like that) send them £10 and they will repair or replace it...I wish I could remember but I've lost my paperwork...it's something

Thanks for the ideas guys..Ive been digging around on the web and found complete mounting systems less than half the price of Optilock..got to be worth a try! Cheers
-
DEKER.if thats your problem get yourself a lapping bar for truing the rings square to the bases they are the best way to mount a scope and take any discreppancies out of the rings........ You can't...the screw holding mount a base together is UNDER the mount so you have to adjust everything OFF the gun!!! It should have a 2 point mounting system between mount and ring..at that price I expect good design and accurate engineering..this system has an obvious flaw!!!
-
What gun??? All the Raptors prefer about 185-200 Bar, perhaps as high as 205/206 bar for the FAC versions, but NOT 220 bar, that's much too high for these. Is it one of the Praire Jobs..don't know what the pressure is meant to be on those??
-
It's down to your barrel..mine prefers the 5.51, I'm running at 26ft lb and the 5.52 are too tight up my barrel...I loose about 1/2-3/4ft lb if I use the 5.52!
-
Optilock...... ONE mounting point between base and ring means its very very difficult to mount them both absolutely straight...and at around £100 a set I expect better engineering and design! £20-£30 Pro mounts on the Air Rifle and Rimmy seem MUCH better to me but they don't make them for the Sako/Tikka!
-
I already have a Tikka and I'm going to invest in some new hardware soon. Sako and Tikka are on the list to think about at the moment, but I absolutely hate and detest the Optilock Scope mounts....and they are not cheap. Not sure what scope I will get yet but does anyone have a Tikka/Sako without Optilock mounts..if so what are you using and are you happy with them. Cheers! Deker

F**k me...I don't recall ever having a 4 shot, 1/4 inch group at 200 yards!

Ratman2 Have a word with Jackson to see if they have any tips! http://www.jacksonrifles.com/sak22lr.htm I have had my Sak for about 18 months, only had it apart the once and not a problem....I tend to scrub it and bash hell out of it; the crud falls out. If Jackson can give you an approved cleaning procedure I'd be interested to hear!
