  1. The .22LR is almost the perfect overall rabbit tool. If you want to push out to between 100-200 yards REGULARLY the HMR is not the tool to choose, get a .223, flatter and much better out to 200 than the HMR. FMJ Barnaul, PRVI etc can be had for £14-£18 per 100 and Wolf HP for £18 per 100, CHEAPER and more effective than HMR. 100 yards or a bit more with HMR is fine but it is NOT an everyday 200 yard ammo, .223 is! You will achieve MUCH better consistancy at 200 with .223 than HMR. Downside is, it's a LOT more powerful so more consideration needs to be given to the shot. Please
  2. I'd say this lot have a pretty wide selection http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/
  3. Pigeons are notorious for destroying CABBAGES, common fact, so if you find your cabbages dug up or eaten this is pigeon and I would say that it can be culled as they are hazzardous to you home farming enterprise. Carbon footprint etc etc. See what I mean Food for thought!!!! Knifebar Got any spare Magpies (ALIVE) I know someone whos after one!?!?
  4. This has been really useful and I have found a number of new contacts, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has replied here and in numerous pm's I have recieved! I'll let you know how things develop but due the the Litts situation it seems I will have to order everthing again elseware so it could be a few weeks before I have some positive info for you. Cheers
  5. I drove to Litts @ Royal Berkshire this morning to find the story, closed, locked, serious padlocks and the notice on the door about recievership as previously mentioned. I'm not happy but I understand one customer was having a custom Beretta built at around the £30k mark and had already paid £10K deposit.
  6. The BDS doesn`t even recomend rifled slugs fired from a shotgun so AAA`s are totally out of the question where deer are concerned.basil46. I am confused by such a blanket statement, AAA is a deer legal shotgun cartridge!
  7. deker you say they have a load of your money .do you mind me asking what for ? they have a few bob of mine also ,where are you from local ? t3 Mine is at the Panbourne branch, a substantial deposit (as they like) for new gun and mod!
  8. F**k Me..they have a load of my money!!!!
  9. A top quality job can be done in minutes for £15 - £25 I understand, but we are all expected to roll over and pay crazy margins to everyone, the figures I have been quoted are ridiculous, £300 for a screw cut is obscene! I only paid £250 for my last rimfire brand new (THE WHOLE GUN) and that was pre cut, so how can these stupid figures be justified just to cut the barrel!
  10. No No No, it is with great regret (as they are an old established and historically fine gunmaker) and my "local", but frankly they are a joke now! 9 times out of ten they never have what you want, prices are silly, staff knowledge is poor and you get the impression you have broken into their tea break every time you walk in! Shame, I would love to support my local dealer, but they need a serious kick up the backside!
  11. It's a very valid point and I do know 2 people who have this horrible complaint (as it happens nothing to do with shooting). Whilst I go along with the moderator view, and they are useful, I believe there is a very strong arguement for BANNING Muzzle Breaks on health a safety grounds. If you are unfortunate enough to be close to one then not only do they nearly blow your head off, the ground often vibrates below your feet as well!
  12. It seems that everyone it taking the P**s at the moment, I have just spoken to 2 seperate "dealers" and have been quoted £175 and £205. Stuff that for a laugh, can someone please point me in the direction of someone who can screw cut at a sensible price, hopefully while I wait, more than happy to drive 100 miles from Reading for the job (further if its a good price and a good job). Many thanks. Deker
  13. Already a balance in nature...shoot everything the landowners want us to shoot and leave everything on the land we are not allowed to shoot on...sounds a good balance to me ....
  14. Knifebar I don't think anyone is after an arguement or suggesting what you say is impossible but a couple of points. 100 yards is an exceptionally long shot with ANY shotgun cartridge and if you can hit the occassional rabbit or bird at that distance you have done very well. To be honest, at that range many lighter pellet sizes have run out of power to do the deed. A lighter cartridge with higher pellet density at closer range will provide a much higher shot to kill ratio in the normal course of events! AAA is best suited for Deer out to 50-60 yards, many would argue only t
  15. You beat me too it, a bunny at 50-90 metres is likely to walk clean through the pattern of AAA. Sorry, but first off my consdered experience suggests 50-60 yard max, and size 4 or 5 for rabbit at that distance, definately NOT AAA! AAA, BB, SG etc., have very limited applications in my opinion, they are devastating at close range on larger animals but are not the shot to use on small animals at distance!
  16. Ok...I admit I know nothing about these, so how come they hit the headlines, what's the story, is this a wind up or what.......... Cheers
  17. I think you may be on sticky ground here, funnily enough i`ve only pm`d you five mins ago. If you fire at a deer with AAA`s, it has to be a shot that ruptures the internal organs, head shots are a big NO. And, i think you have to contact DEFRA about shooting deer with shotguns. (something about exhausting all avenues) I looked this up recently. basil. That's news to me as well, never heard about rupturing organs, and hitting a Roe in the head with AAA will do the job VERY well. Can you point me in the direction of the source of this information please. Do agree though a rifle is with
  18. I think you are somewhat missing the spirit of the response, and the point of my response. The advice is simple..Don't buy a 10-22 if you want a trouble free life or unless you intend to throw most of it away and buy a bucket load of spares, and spend more time cleaning it that shooting it!! Out of the box many of them will struggle to cycle subs! Am I wrong??? Chill out Richie.. you have already confirmed most of what I said in your original response!
  19. I know what you mean mate. But what would you do if the landowner asked you to shoot the does and the young ones And if you didn't you'd end up losing your permission. We all know how hard it can be to get good ground to shoot on. what you are saying is right and i see your point of view..But listen up the farmers grow there crops and when there ripe they harvest them.. thats what i think about my crop{rabbits] we should harvest when they are ripe There are 2 VERY different schools of thought and 2 VERY different reasons here. If you are involved in Game and Ve
  20. Sorry guys but I have to laugh Same thing every time..How come the 10-22 is so popular when everyone buys one, throws away all the bits and replaces them with aftermarket spares!!! If I bought a car and it was that C**p I had to throw most of it way a replace it with other manufacturers spares I would not be turning round and saying what a great car (GUN) it is!!! And the simple answer as to why your 10-22 struggles with sub sonic ammo is IT'S A 10-22 I'll get my coat whilst you all discuss! Cheers!!
  21. At around, and just after sunset, there is sometimes a rather strange stillness. A loud gun (Shotgun/Certrefire) report could easily carry 5 miles at this time, and depending on the terrain and any wind this could be further!
  22. OK..here we go...to the point and easy....... There is no debate as you are talking 2 different things and 2 different people! If you are a Game and Vermin Controller you have NO problems shooting fox at any time of year so no question to answer! If you shoot for fun and have your own views then you either do what you are told and swallow you personal views, or risk loosing your land which you shoot on for fun. Anyone who has to think about this question should consider another hobby! Personally I find the notion of shooting fox for fun totally alien, they are a menace in m
  23. Garyw I'm not buying the gun on the trigger, I've looked long and hard at a lot of rifles recently..the brief is Synthetic stock, stainless barrel, detachable mag, light field gun, screw cut and a moderator...scopes, mounts, slings etc make it too complicated as a starting point! So the answer is Tikka or Sako, but Remington do have a reputation for accuracy and I was looking for a change from Tikka rather than having yet another clone in the cabinet with a different calibre. The Remington does not have a detachable mag, the barrel seems like a flag pole, and if the trigger is s**t t
  24. I think I have seen a bit on this before but help me out please. I am thinking about investing in a 700SPS but historically the triggers were not meant to be great but with a bit of work could be eased up and made "satisfactory". Apparently Remington now have "NEW" triggers which are fit for nothing but the scrap heap, requiring replacement aftermarket triggers at £100+. Can anyone give me their experiences of the old and new triggers, is too much being made of this or are they really as bad as they seem? I ask the question as I already have a Tikka T3 Lite and was thinking abo
  25. New rifle and new ammo, we have discussed this since (a few days back), got to admit "whatever" the ammo was devastating and the deer was dead before he fell over. Seeing as me/Mr Logic/my game dealer wants the meat we will be using different ammo in future! This ammo is serious killing though, the shock wave and fragments caused massive internal damage. Putting it in the right place helped too!
