  1. We run across quite a lot of perm. That block is 3000 acres. But next door is 3000, next door to that is 2500 etc. In all honesty I had never slipped a dog in that field before (that’s the first dog that hit the ditch). We quite often just do the same route around bits of it that we know well and usually finished the night before we get past that. We stopped at a junction that night and said “same bit as usual or shall we try the other side”. You live and you learn, I am now quite paranoid about the ditches. The second dog was just freak bad luck, running a big old lump down a stone track, she
  2. Ah I remember you now ..... recently bought your first running dog off Jeff. Obviously believed the sales pitch. I believe you are the one who said “these dogs attract certain types” ?
  3. Mine died 30tj august and the others had a bad time couple weeks or so later.
  4. To make it worse, they had come down to cheer me up and get me out with the dogs as I’d lost my bitch a couple weeks before .....
  5. Fences and ditches are a bad combination. Like I said we’ve very little fencing around here but in the corner of one field is a little run of very old three strand barb, there haven’t been cows on the ground in a long long time. Mate came down for a nights lamping, drove five hours, first slip and dog went sailing over the bit of fence after something, hit the far ditch bank as he came down and that was game over. The next slip my other mate who’d travelled down with him ended up with his dog retired. Not the most successful night !
  6. He is stopping a few now. He’s a natural runner.
  7. It does always fascinate me how folk talk about feeding dogs. While I totally agree it’s good to feed them the best you can and condition them right and that a hard working dog needs good grub...... I also think sometimes it’s as much about the person as the dog, feeding very expensive kibble or complex raw diets. There would be plenty of hard working farm dogs fed on cheap dry feed and scraps.
  8. Apparently also pixie would look cute in a jumper .....
  9. It’s interesting lamping different ground. An issue I have here a lot is stuff going out of the beam, either due to undulations in the fields, distance, or around side of woods, cover. I would say probably 60% of stuff or more is caught out of the beam, sometimes a fair way off. And probably 40-50% of the slips end up with the dog going either into or through woods / trees of some kind or over a road at some point.
  10. Just been looking at the equafleeces, think I’m going to order some. Currently give them a good rub down, bathe their feet and usually bring them in for a bit when I get home if they’ve had a hard run.
  11. I was out lamping last night, having a good few runs and it made me think. . . . . So I’d better say first that this isn’t a dig at anyone or me trying to say my dogs are great, thought I’d better get that clear before someone got butt hurt ...... So pretty much all of the ground I run is big arable with thin hedges about the place, woods, rough patches etc but not a fence or wall in sight. If stuff is out in the open on these big fields it is usually all just down to the quality of the dog and the quarry as to whether it ends up on the deck or not. However a lot of th
  12. I’ve found the answer is ...... don’t try to do too many things! I work, keep the Mrs happy and then all other time is for the dogs. The Mrs is dog mad to so it helps!
  13. It’s nice to see a bit of cultural immersion ?
  14. It would be one of the better ones I’ve been to mate ? you telling some young lad to stop f*cking whining and crying and get in there and kick f**k out of someone, a man called pig, woman who would have eaten me and spat me out, lots of drinking and a pool table.
  15. One of the things folk forget about crypto is it’s environmentally really bad. Lots of company’s and folk with warehouses full of mining rigs running 24/7 plus cooling fans etc. Burning lots of electricity.
  16. Interesting though isn’t it. I’ve bet met any Noah’s !
