  1. The other thing I always notice is that to the layman, when looking at farming small is always seen as good, green, happy etc and big and commercial is seen as bad, low welfare, high impact, poor quality. It is simply not true at all. Same with the indoor vs outdoor debate for livestock. Folk want all outdoors but I have both and I see who’s happier from about now until March ?
  2. iPhones are another good example - the components inside involve some precious metals from some nasty global spots. The smart phone has a horrific global footprint. But never gets mentioned !
  3. There is another myth surrounding soya - that rain forests are cut down to grow soya for cows. The soya is mostly grown for human consumption but a large % is unusable so it’s fed to cows and other ruminants. Whichever way you dress it up...... it’s people that are the problem. See my image earlier - there are actually slightly less cows now than in 1980..... but almost the double the people and aviation has exploded ......
  4. There was an anthropological paper I read which I can’t remember the exact details but it was something along the lines of societies hit a point where they want to be seen to be as progressive as they feel they are so want to distance themselves from the things that got them to where they are ie farming, hunting etc. It’s that rural / urban thing. But maybe now they can have the whole country as a place with super cities and dotted areas of ‘nature’ you can visit and walk around ..... and that is all!
  5. Yes sorry you are correct, it should have read for 20 years. So tree planting takes 20 years to get to the point where it is sequestering decent amounts of carbon.
  6. While I’m talking of climate cons - all of this carbon offsetting by big buisness is great ...... isn’t it ! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-small-welsh-village-taking-on-the-tree-planting-industry/amp
  7. That’s very true. But the statement made was “agriculture is the second biggest contributor to greenhouse gasses in the uk” Im saying this is bull shit. I would say it’s also bull shit globally. I mean it makes perfect sense when faced with people going on holiday or driving needlessly one one hand and food production on the other ...... to stop people producing food to save the planet .....
  8. That’s even a con. Farmer plants thousands of trees on government scheme. Gets placement wrong by 10cm and gets a £15,000 fine. Some incentive that. Oh and most of the trees planted for carbon stuff at pines - which take 20 years before they sequester any carbon and create and acidic atmosphere were f**k all lives. Did you know species rich grass land actually sequesters more carbon than trees ?
  9. Your first sentence translates to “Methane is the greenhouse gas we can sort out without causing any hired for ourselves, our mates in big business and without upsetting Wayne and waynette and saying they can’t fly to lnzagrote twice a years
  10. I am basically the anti Christ - an unjabbed , dread locked, right wing hippy who hunts with dogs and farms cows.
  11. A return flight from Europe to USA for one person produces about 0.8 tons of carbon. So a family of four going to Disney and back would produce 3.2 tons of carbon on just the flights ...... Thibk if all of those x Atlantic business flights ..... Yer it’s deffo the cows.
  12. I’m more talking about where they are pointing the blame mate..... and where they aren’t ! Apparently agriculture is the second biggest polluter after coal powered fire stations ? I’ll just leave the below photo there .....
  13. Probably because it’s my industry ...... but the way farming is getting attacked is mental. And the amount of hypocrisy is ridiculous. We have Jeff Bezos .... head of Amazon, telling people that farming needs to sort it self out and change. The man runs Amazon, ffs, and spent 5.5bn to launch a rocket so he could have 10 mins at the edge of space. There are 400 private planes at the event. Plus they flew in heavy 4x4 vehicles to do short runs about the place ? Oh yer it’s deffo the cows farts that are destroying the world ..... that and tractors ?
  14. Is anyone else listening to the shite being spouted by the great and good at COP26 and getting wound up by it? The utter hypocrisy and crap is worse than ever. And even worse is the majority of the general public is buying it .........
  15. I’m after a blitz if anyone has one for sale. This is my current stock.
  16. I hate the led stuff. But the halogen light force are getting hard to get. One two but one got destroyed and the other stolen! Managed to snag another second hand one though but was serious money.
  17. I’m not really into deer stalking, I can very much see the appeal of it but seems around here to be a closed shop where a small number of people who take themselves very seriously and have all of the gear rent big chunks of stalking ground, do very little to reduce or manage deer numbers and then charge other folk loads of money to shoot a few bucks. Then there are too many deer and someone just whacks them all on the lamp / night vision at the end of the season to get numbers down.
  18. It always amazes me. All of the dark and horrible stuff happening in the world, all of the ways our planet and society are falling apart ........ and folk are passionately worried about people chasing a fox about with some dogs. A sense of perspective is what some folk sorely lack.
  19. I actually walked past the spot the night before last, there were quarry in the field and I walked on by, it sent a shiver down my spine!
