  1. I don't know what you want the terrier for but everyone I know regrets getting a Jagd.
  2. If you're not hunting, fresh road kill and leftovers ?. As said if you cant afford to feed a dog don't have one.
  3. Different to breeding an extreme but useful working dog. Even the lap type dogs were ok until the show people got hold.
  4. They do look pretty tidy and athletic compared to similar breeds.
  5. That's all blue and white lurchers are good for, lol.
  6. Few years ago now but I bought a very ugly albino hob from a feed store because I felt sorry for him, not something I usually do. He was dirty and starving but I got him back to health and he turned into a once in a lifetime animal. He would never bite despite his poor start and was like having a very obedient terrier. He would clear a warren and get back in his box. If working blackberries you just pointed him at the area and off he'd go and return after flushing the rabbits to the whippets. He ended up getting a cancer near his eye and the vet cut it out but it came back worse so I had to sh
  7. The neighbors dogs were way before American pits were in this country. I think they were pointer cross English bulldog. I was only a kid but remember they were short, wide spotted dogs. The bloke came from way out west and the dogs were his old pig dogs, they lived until 18 or 19 back in the early 70's.
  8. That takes me back, I remember a neighbor with what he called pointer bulldogs 50 years ago when only a few people caught pigs with dogs here.
  9. If you can find a pig hunter who isn't a criminal, lol. No there are some decent blokes into the pigs.
  10. Top of Queensland 666. Just don't ask for my rabbit spots, lol.
  11. They mainly use big type kelpies on the semi wild cattle here but I've never seen one grab the nose like a good cattle dog.
  12. They are getting out of hand here atm, the more hunters the better. I used to hunt the pine plantations in the mountains of NSW but if you want number go to the gulf country, they reckon there are ten million odd up there.
  13. That's where the ACD's come in with rogue cattle at muster, grabbing the nose and giving the animal a hiding so it rejoins the herd.
  14. The one in the pic looks like the proper wild boar, we only have feral pigs here, thank God, lol.
  15. I think you are underestimating how tough the boars are. We caught a 100kg one near home when we were just exercising the dogs and it dragged six pigdogs down hill with me on it's back and the mrs holding it's tail about 80m before I could get a knife in, lol.
  16. And good dogs lay up against the pig while lugging. It's why two dogs are better.
  17. The only thing with holding the ear is the pig can't get a hook in ,nothing like a nose hold to subdue cattle.
  18. I agree, most pig hunters, in Oz at least have serious ego problems and are not dogmen at all imo. To be fair if you run into a big mountain boar one dog isn't going to cut it. If you don't respect the boars and take them lightly you can easily be killed.
  19. Like having coonhounds for hunting over here, lol. Sounds like the bull X's would be more versatile over there and able to handle the odd pig.
  20. They were another breed that used to be capable dogs over here and used a lot in pig dog lines. As you say, never see a healthy specimen now. Best hunting pigdog the mrs every owned was an English mastiff/English bull terrier. Could jump and run well and very intelligent. I doubt you could produce one like that nowadays.
  21. I'd imagine some of the white dogs could be deaf, probably not as bad seeing most come from colored parents.
  22. Never seen an albino one that would be a mad looking animal. The white one my friends had was a good guard and would bite you but good with their family. I think they have fared better than most non working breeds and you often see boxer/English bull/cattle cross dogs as pigdogs and working cattle dogs here.
  23. They look like an alright type for pigs. We had a English bull/Eng Mastiff/Dane that was surprisingly fast in a sprint, a top pig dog and caught a deer once(only because he was told too) but he was from a line of hunters. I think if you want to create or recreate a breed of this type you need to work all gens and be ruthless in the culling to put a breed stamp on them or they are just a designer dog like a chug. Saying they can catch all game is laughable, my whippets are more allrounders, lol.
  24. I'd rather go rabbiting than chop my cock off, personally. These people really need a hobby.
