Just a few ideas... Was it a wood pigeon or ferral or dove as some ferrals can carry some nasty parasites in their gut and maybe the survivor didnt eat it or the mum. Was it fed fresh or was it frozen first? Pigeons store food in their crop could it of been something in there? Maybe a pesticide? Have you checked for fleas and ticks? FF

Change Of Heart
Furrosious ferreter replied to Lewissc's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Make up a spring sleeve too. Maybe take off the bear trap as its crap and rattles. Only stops you pulling the trigger but when cocking/loading your finger sbouldnt be near the trigger anyway. Check the piston lever for cracks at the piston shoe end. If any cracks replace it. Mine broke as i was cocking it. Squeaky bum moment. FF -
Woke up this morning, went out to check the stinkers and the sandy came out with 2 of her kits but no polecat, so hopefully thought she had her litter but couldnt hear them. Peeked in to her box and felt so sad... she had her litter (7) but unfortunatly all had passed, after getting her away from them i had a quick look but couldnt tell what had happened. They had no marks on them, some had the plasenta still attached. I didnt know what to do so i put her buddy in with her for about an hour and she perked up abit, then i saw something that amazed me... the sandy went into the nest box wher

Buying A New Air Rifle.
Furrosious ferreter replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
My mate brought an airarm s410 march last year, from airgun center. Got the gun... scope... 2 mags... sling... bipod... hard casd... tin of pellets... life time warrenty. And they didnt have the beech stock one he wanted (cheepness) so they done the walnut sporter for same price. It had mag fault... they sent him a new one, didnt even want old one back. Had indexing fault... fixed inside a week. Scope fault... sent him new scope. They dont pay postage to them... but they might on the way back. I think my next gun might come from them... and there not that far away either. -
Best Air Rifle Optics ?
Furrosious ferreter replied to fox assasin's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Im currently looking at the hawke airmax range... But also the first focal plane (ffp) too, but only because i do all types of hunting from close up ratting to rabbits out to 65-70 meters as well as paper punching to meters. Which means you dont need to change aim points at different magnifacations for ffp, but you do for second focal plane (sfp) which i currently have for 6x 10x 15x 20x and 24x So would that upgrade be better??? My other pregnant jill ive put them all together again as she has been trying to get to see them climbing up the court walls. FF

I have had one season of ferreting and my jill done really well. I got a cheap chest freezer and keep it in the shed and its full of rabbits for my now 7 ferrets. I gave 16 rabbits to the local ferret rescue the other week too. I do also use day old chicks as they seem to love them and they are bite size gone in one sitting. No flies. FF I believe in one good turn deserves another...

Its when they hold your finger for the first time you well up. My first was born at home, not planned, nightmere, i delivered him, still have an off cut of the carpet in the keep sake box. Third was born in her embriotic sack, they say shes supposed to be a mermaid. More like a madam... 6 weeks early too so spent 2 weeks in under uv light. But all good now... Breast is best... but get some comfort milk in for the 2-4 am feed... mine always settled better after this. If they are unsettled, remember the 'pat on bottom and shhhh shhhh shhhh' supposed to resemble heart beat and noi -

I think i remember reading the hw80 performs best as a fac gun at 18fpe. Because of the chamber size, piston weight, tranzfer port size and stroke length. Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong. FF

Ferret Milk Question!
Furrosious ferreter replied to Furrosious ferreter's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I take the jill out while i handle the kits and she goes with the other jill for bout 30 to 40 minutes and they just go in the other nest box. She can get away from the kits into a separate part of the court through a tube the kits have yet found and she goes out there in early morning to sun bathe and wind the cats and rooks up. Went and checked the kits claws and the dont seem that bad. And the jill hasnt got any scratch marks on her. She does have one clingy kit the only hob he just whines for her all the time. FF -
My kits are now 5 weeks old and are eating rabbit and day old chicks fine. They are also hobbling around the hutch. But my jill has got a bit swallen around her nipples. Is this due to the kits not suckling as much or is it more serious? My misses had a blocked milk duct with our first and she had to have antibiotics. FF
