  1. Problem is there’s just not enough of us to make an outrage, we dog men are a dying breed and no one gives a f**k about us. I do feel the majority of the public don’t really care either way especially if there was some education about what we do and the benefits but they don’t care enough to make a fuss and that’s all the politicians care about. We English best make the most of it whilst we still can
  2. Unless you’re in view of the public (not a great idea even before the new ban) you just need reasonable reason to have a dog with you. My take if it happened in the same circumstances in England would be I would carry on as usual and just make damn sure I was discreet and always had purse nets or long nets on me and just say the dog is for marking should anyone every question it. This law has very little really to do with rabbits it’s about killing fox hunting once and for all, hatred for the toffs that ride. If you’re sensible I think ferreting can carry on as before but lamping is done for,
  3. This bill was bought about by the greens who snp are in bed with as they don’t actually have full control of parliament. Was a bribe to carry on sturgeon’s insane agenda of independence. Sorry to any decent Scottish lads reading but frankly you lot keep voting her in you can have your independence and be gone. She and the snp are a cancer on society, they have done nothing but drum up division and hatred and all on English taxpayers dime.
  4. Labour calls for toughening of Hunting Act and vows to close ‘loophole’ | Hunting | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM As figures show there have been 438 convictions since 2010, party says it wants to outlaw trail hunting ‘smokescreen’
  5. I am not suggesting overturning the ban just leaving rabbits out if they alter the current legislation, obviously they are currently legal quarry. It was a tabled amendment to the Scottish bill but got voted down.
  6. I hope your right but liebour have already been making noises
  7. Depressingly spot on. I can only hope if something similar comes in this country rabbits might be excluded but that’s probably unlikely.
  8. After getting my head round this nonsense my take is that the old hunting bill has been completely replaced with a new one that makes any dog killing any mammal other than rats and mice illegal. The confusion yesterday on my part about the 2 dog rule is about flushing game to waiting guns (or nets I assume?), you are allowed to use up to 2 dogs to flush game but not actually kill it. There is no mention anywhere in anything I read about ferreting so I would assume ferreting is still legal (falconry is untouched) but the role of the dog in ferreting I would say is very cloudy indeed. My assumpt
  9. Read the exceptions, more than 2 dogs. Even says that lower down on the bacs website. The headline grabbing is now illegal but the reality is I don’t think it is.
  10. On Bacs website they state no hunting of rabbits with more than 2 dogs so I don’t understand why you can’t still use a lurcher on the lamp or ferreting and be within the law.
  11. What am I missing? I’ve read that whole thing and it clearly states certain exceptions and the main one I saw was no more than 2 dogs, it’s obviously a shower of absolute nonsense that it’s come to even that but you can still catch a rabbit with a dog.
  12. Sorry meant to quote you. See reply above
  13. It does but if you then read the exceptions that’s the key part, there are quite a few exceptions. I have read the whole thing and it seems increasingly obvious they basically wanted trail hunting gone as they feel most trail hunters were actually hunting and most importantly they hate the rich toffs that hunt and wanted to close the loophole that was trail hunting. It’s basically as you were just no more trail hunting. Hence the 6 exceptions
  14. As I understand it yes. You can also obtain a license for working more than 2 dogs that covers 14 days of work and a 6 month period. Terriers can still flush fox but only 1 dog at a time.

  16. I have just read the new law and it’s no more than 2 dogs per person. So 3 of you could go out ferreting with 6 dogs and as long as they don’t “act like a pack” you’re still legal. Was a specific section of rough shooting and said more than 2 dogs can be present but efforts should be made to stop them forming a pack. Trail hunting is now banned in Scotland, that was what the whole thing was about really. Poor old hounds.
  17. Frankly it’s horrible time to be alive in a lot of ways. Trans bullshit, woke madness, immigrants murdering fold, can’t think the wrong thought without being cancelled, division at every turn in society and now potentially can’t even run a dog on a rabbit. Worlds f****d.
  18. I do agree to a point. I have a hob that is so quick on the kill that if you give more than 5 minutes he has killed it and just moves on, so I do check he isn’t fixed in a spot after a fairly quick time frame. I have actually barely worked him this year as the rabbits barely get a chance just too strong and fast, don’t want to be digging all day want them bolting to missed by my dog ??
  19. It’s good your going to rest the ground and let them breed but sounds like others may not be so sensible. Hate it when landowners give multiple people permission for the same quarry, makes it a lot harder to manage a permission.
  20. RSPB offering unique post on Rathlin Island to help ferret out invasive species WWW.BELFASTTELEGRAPH.CO.UK In what must be one of the most unusual job adverts seen in Northern Ireland, a bird protection charity is seeking a ferret hunter for... Here’s the article for anyone interested
  21. I have a 18 month old Sandy hob and his sister a polecat jill. Both are very friendly and from working stock. I have too many ferrets and not enough rabbits or time to work these two so would rather they went to someone else, trying here first rather than the pet sites as more likely to be working homes. They have both been out once and bolted rabbits but both did leave rabbits in the warren when I then put a more experienced ferret in to check the warren but probably just need more experience. I am in East Sussex, dm me if your interested. Free to anyone on here.
  22. The way I’ve always thought about is if your dog was in pain and had no chance of recovering you would be called cruel for keeping it alive and not having it pts. What makes people any different? More understanding makes it even crueler frankly. Obviously you need to be careful about how it’s used with sage guards etc but we must introduce this as a country imo.
  23. Indeed, I don’t know him at all but I think a new start after some marriage trouble. Been there….
  24. Active at the game fairs in the summer and posts occasionally on instagram and writes regularly for countryman’s weekly so yes definitely still around and catching.
