  1. It was a great day out , and Matt was a fantastic fellow, he thoroughly enjoyed him self, so did I will do the video when I get some time to edit it.
  2. Hey Guy’s hope all is well. Was out again today with Mathew , who I met via social media ,he has been in Australia for about 7 years and hadn’t been ferreting in all that time, anyway long story short , Mathew stayed at my place, and in the morning we were out and about with the stinkers , and dogs, we managed to bag a few, Mathew went home with a feed of bunnies and a great day was had. PS video incoming
  3. Yes all the time, if you don't know some of the reasons for doing so by now, no point me trying to educate you, I know you won't or can't listen.
  4. Let me guess, your dog never misses a rabbit either. ?
  5. A good marking dog in those situations is worth is weight in gold. at the end of a long hard shift when they haven't got much juice left in the tank, even the best ferrets miss them, sometimes you see that when you enter a fresh one and out it comes , seen it many times, so when they are all tired days end guess what? A good ferret won't miss many! J.M.O
  6. Even the good ones can miss them mate, seen it many times over the years. I always say the good ones don't miss many, mine are better than most I go out with, they don't last long with me if they aren't any good, mine put my food on the table.
  7. Sometime the ferrets can just miss them, especially when they are all held up in the same passage, if they take a left instead of a right. It happens!
  8. During and after, won't be long and I'll see the back of these warm mornings can't wait.
  9. Was out again this morning on a new property, and I must say it is a beauty. I didn't have much time to work with, the weather was predicted to 30 + Celsius by 10 am, so the plan was hit a couple of burrows hard and fast, I was not disappointed. Enjoy Guys.
  10. Surprisingly no we don't, I've lost 3 in 45 years of ferreting, it does happen but its rare, we do make sure we take a good look before sticking our hands down a burrow though. Sally is a beautiful polecat, catches a few to many underground for my liking, her nick name is savage sally she is a cracker.
  11. Welcome to my world, they breed all year round here always have, all you need now is for the rain to stop, and the temp to rise enough to harden the ground, so you cant dig it, not to mention running your dogs on it all year round. The good news is you say goodbye to the word season.
  12. One mans trash is another mans treasure. The answer to your question is opinion.
  13. There is substantial evidence backed up by scientific research, and is well documented and widely known in the ferreting community, hence the Jab was developed, and the practice of utilising a vasectomised hob is still a common practice. Nuff said
  14. It has been my experience that a Jill left too long in season will eventually go off their food a bit, and begin to lose weight especially if in regular work, followed down the track by other ailments directly related to hormone imbalance, I own 12 working Jills one complete hob and 1 vasectomised Hob. I was also given a Jill xmas day, I had previously bred and sold, who had been in season for quite some time and had lost a lot of condition, shame she is well bred and a cracking worker apparently, once she puts a bit of weight and condition back on, I will see if she is all he claims. her ful
  15. My son didn't take to it, but the daughter still loves it - Then and now
  16. At least you can dig yours out Neil, Even a bad days ferreting is still better than a good day in. Enjoy mate
  17. Not sure if you are right or wrong, but there is another train of thought here, it may in fact be a bad thing to kill off all bacteria, parasites, etc , as it could lower their natural immunity and lower tolerance, and ability to fight off such things, weaken the species in the process, sometimes going backwards is going forward. Just something to ponder.
