Brother/sister Cross- Your Thoughts!
Plucky1 replied to Kaizer Sozĕ's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
do you know all the breeding of the terriers you have bred in the 25yrs or have you scatter bred with different stud dogs, after 25yrs of line breeding the line would be very tight and a brother/sister mating would be too close,a half brother/sister could even be too close, is your line everything you desire from a terrier ? When did you last outcross ?? Is your present line clean of any health problems ? I always breed to a plan and only you will know how close that line has become,WM -
Rob,get yourself along to the Cheshire hawking club meetings as there are plenty of lads that could help you that live in Liverpool areaWM,

as you lads with the bull/crosses are always telling me they have a lot more drive but its a bit late for any type of lurcher, you bull/cross lads are a bit touchy about even the mention of stock breaking then I take it,LOL,s,WM

I do not understand why you would buy such a pup without either friends already doing it or plenty of game to go at,I get down to Swansea about 4 times a year and there is plenty of rabbits and stuff to go at around there,do as Green dragon has, read as much as you can on basic training but if you have left stock breaking until now with a bull/cross you could be too late,WM

Merry Xmas Gaz to you and your family, enjoy your day,WM

My pics go right back to the 70,s and number in the 1000,s right across terriers, lurchers, hunting, ferreting, hawking etc, in fact everything I am proud to of spent my lifetime enjoying, there are pics of lads and dogs long since dead, foxes weighing in at 28lb and end of day pics I am still proud of, a bit of common sense is all that is needed when posting on here or anywhere else for that matter and stay within the letter of the law as the world changes, nobody likes change but to carry on doing what we love we must all adapt to what freedom is left,WM

I found a Roman offering bowl made of what looked like bronze with 3 parallel lines around the rim with a hare on each side, walking along on some permission that had been turned over for the first time in my lifetime and that's 58yrs,we had just bolted a fox from a small drain made of very tiny bricks and about 20yds away lying on the top covered in clay was a bowl that I nearly trod on,I picked it up laughing saying here's a Roman bowl, upon getting home I threw the bag in the shed and forgot about it,I used to tread over it for at least a year then whilst in London the wife and I went the Bri

Green dragon, if you have anywhere decent holding stuff me and my mate get over to Anglesey for the day on some permo or tag along with us, there has been a lot of shit spoken on here about terriers,do not limit yourself by other peoples failures, early training as a pup will sort any dropping in,WM

Only ever met 1 decent ranger and that was out by Oulton park racing track,he worked for the National Trust,we were trespassing flying a hawk over ferreted rabbits when he turned up,we thought we were in the shit but instead he came with us for a few good hours catching rabbits,he enjoyed himself and when we got back to his land rover he had 2decent borders that he used to dig with, so they are not all pricks, but all the others I have met have been real idiots with no common sense, the Wirral has an old railway turned into a public walkway/horse path and the rangers on there are well clued up

GAZ, try tandooried rabbit, very tasty and easy to do,joint the bunnies and mix Greek or natural yoghurt with tandoori powder, marinade over night and lightly roast in the oven on a rack, great little meal, or Italian style, joint the rabbit and put a bit of bertolli or virgin oil in a frying pan with a few pieces of garlic, add some onion and the rabbit, lightly brown then add a tin of skinned or chopped tomatoes, bring back to the simmer, cover and simmer until tender, nice with roast potatoes and peas, enjoy both as I do, WM

Nighthunters Whippets And Mallyfield Whippets
Plucky1 replied to rabbitman1234567's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I know MB very well and he would never tell a lie on a pedigree would he ?? LOL,s ask all those boys that bought the pit bulls years ago off him, I have been in the house whilst PEDs were made up, ghost litters, etc, the same with the famous SUNNY of Darren Gallagher, his dog is never a full whippet, anything over 21TTS has something else other than whippet in its make up,probably a small greyhound been bred down, Gamerooster I totally agree with you and I used to attend those Whippet coursing meets, WM -
I think we've probably all had one at some time, especially anyone thats been at it for years, I had a 3/4 bred collie grey that was good on rabbits, murdered fox but was mediocre on hare, he would give a yip on tight turns working a hare hard, I kept him till he was 3 or so then a mate asked me for him one day when out checking earths, I'd been moaning about him yipping a bit, so that was that my mate kept him till 15yrs old and only done rabbit and fox with him, didn't suit me because hare was our main quarry in the 70's- 80's and none of it was permission, WM

Sounds like a yapper to me,my mates old fella used to say it was shouting for the rabbits to slow down and come back, LOL,s WM

Great write up and in my favourite part of the world,I love every county in this island of ours but Scotland is the special place for us sporting lads, looks like you were lucky with the weather also, will you get the head mounted ?? I used to bring loads of sets back for my mates that make sticks, etc but nothing gets wasted on my mates estate now in their pursuit of money, I am hoping to get there soon myself, sounds like you are enjoying yourself, WM

Ha ha,you are a little touchy tonight Lee, did the pup say thanks Mr Russell for showing me how to retrieve, then Mr Russell said tomorrow we will be showing you how to catch rabbits in farthing wood, then they all lived happy ever after, ahh, that's nice, WM
-
Its all that time on the couch watching the telly Lee,he,s gone and got himself educated,he will start drawing diagrams on how to do it next LOL,s,dogs especially terriers will not give up anything easily, mine would kill each other first,WM

Well yet again you lads have come up with the goods, many thanks but its all a bit rich for my budget I think the green paint will be coming out unless I can buy a second hand open stock, the KT thumbhole is not for me, I do not find them comfortable at all to shoot,Anyone knows of a secondhand stock in any condition please let me know,Wm
