I would say its just lack of training and obedience from an early age, get them out early and establish what they can and cannot do,whats acceptable etc,it can take a few months to sort out but well worth the effort, I do not get mistakes, only when adding a new pup to the pack but mine kill most stuff above ground anyway, round here it has to be really wet or cold for fox to go to ground and mine never go in a rabbit hole, they will mark up every occupied hole but will always wait, Plummers are a very intelligent breed and trained from young will be fine, Bunnyboiler, I told you when you boug

The naughty boys weren't bred reverse x reverse ..How were they bred mate, they were like lurcher to lurcher wasnt they?they have been line bred so it is not really possible to say their exact genetic cross,as in first or second cross,it also explains why they throw slightly different pups, as the blood is diluted the less reliable the cross,WM

I'd just like to add thanks to the lads that showed interest in the pups but all pups are now sold, yet again they have gone all over the country,Hull,Wakefield,,Maidstone, Doncaster,Swansea,Hereford, and a few went to Liverpool this time, met some good lads and happy where they've gone, WM -
When It's Time To Get Back In The Car...
Plucky1 replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Tomo, had the keeper out to us one day and whilst we are giving it legs running for the road my mates whippet popped up a hare squatting and proceeded to run it on a stubble field, the police land rover spent more time trying to run over the dog than catch us, by the time he got to us with the keeper we were safe on the road, coppers tried to say we'd been coursing but we stuck to that we were just walking up this road and didn't know what the f*ck he was on about, funny as f*ck because I said make sure you put in your report we were arrested on the "queens highway" as that was enough for us t -

Gaz, thats for camouflage mate, LOL's , WM -
well if u want a dog 27 and it end up 23 you will be gutted and vice versa buddy, that's what I'm getting at.Boycey is usually put to the biggest bitcg as well. Woody throws smaller stuff it will also depend on the greyhound, if you are set on a dog from Hancock the conformation, size etc is paramount, seen quite a few from the same stud dogs and the size difference TTS" is only been changed by the bitch any of the "naughty boys" have sired, make sure you get one off a youngish bitch of the size you expect, he has a book and records the pup sizes from each mating, Sally will give you her

Everyone is trying to re-invent the wheel it seems, I've worked cover (bushing) all my life with terriers of every sort and can not see the attraction in spaniel crosses at all other than lads that mainly shoot, a decent terrier will do everything a spaniel cross can and then some, its not that I don't get out and see them work either as I have and do, still its personal choice I suppose and they do not attract the attention of walkers, hikers etc when out like a terrier does ?? Where did your Plummer come from Teckers ?? pm if you want, just interested in her bloodlines, WM

I would think the lad probably has an idea who it is unless he has loads of people through it each day, the RSPCA have been known to steal dogs in the past but they would of taken everything, the answer will be closer to home than you want to believe, visit everyone thats been there or knows of them pups, WM

I have a set of Bellman and Flint, I think they are the best on the market, quality product but pricey, their truck will be at the "Midland game fair" next week, always in the same place, WM

My point entirely, this is a very lucrative business, over 100 pups of varying ages at any one time, nobody running or testing any of them, yet people still queue up to buy off him. Wuyang, I take it the veiled comment was aimed at me about my lad and its a fair comment but like all young lads, even at 23yrs old he has read all the bullish*t in the books and seen my pics of collie/greys from the past and thought that was what he was buying into, nobody listens to their dad when they are young but now at last after seeing me proved right he has seen sense and bought something decent to run in any

Its always been first there gets the worm round here mate, if you never got out lamping early as well it would be all over with, you can't knock keen lads really as we've all done it, WM

Hello Luke, only just seen this post mate, she's been in top form the last couple of weeks hammering everything in front of her, trying not to do too much with her for a while yet,she had a big rabbit the other day, wished I had my camera today when she snatched a pheasant a good 6ft off the ground flying, loves catching birds and swims like a fish on those ducks, I'll put some recent pics up this week for you, hope you are keeping well yourself and dogs, WM

Nice pics, really like the bottom one was he any good? Here's the rub Marvel, the top dog thats black and white killed his first fox at 9 months old and I never seen him turn away from one,if he got on terms then it was "curtains",he stood 27"TTS great rabbiting dog but lousy on hares, kept him for 4 yrs then gave him to a lad that just done fox, the bottom bitch was bought in 2004 stood 27"TTS would kill anything but was running sly on fox single handed, she would either back off and let them get into cover or bark, running alongside, doubled up she was brave but liked the arse end too much

I live in an area renowned for hares and have always kept fast lurchers for over 40 yrs, my local estate has plenty there but as we know it is illegal to run them, as said I've kept plenty of lurchers and certainly know a decent one from bad, he peddles far too many not to produce the odd good one, my average day will see me come across a very mixed bag and I will expect a lurcher to take whats put in front of it, a hare will only test one aspect needed in a running dog. The greyhounds of any quality are not numerous enough to supply him with enough decent pups for his demand, last ti

some old 3/4 crosses, WM
-
Somewhereyournot, I would say that different lads are easily pleased, I can have 3-4 runs in one field but what about the rest of the day, you may will have been lucky with your dog but I expect a lot from a lurcher, if you've never had a good one you'd never know, I have been to "Hancocks" kennel many times and knew him through Plummer, he'd drop a stud dog off there to use if he was away or busy writing bullshit, the whole kennels is built on a bed of lies, "Merle" never took a fox in his life and yet he produced crosses that did,"Richard Jones" was the better stud dog with the beardie in th

Great time for starting a pup now, I've been doing more and more with my young bitch this past week and I'm made up with her, good hunting to all, WM
-
The dogs produced in 80's and 90's were far superior to the sh*te he peddles now, there hasn't been a sire or dam worked in 30yrs, I've kept every cross from 1st cross,2nd and 5/8 grey 3/8 collie, the 5/8 was superb at everything, my lads had 2 off him in 3 yrs, couldn't take a knock and simply not good enough, both dead now, I like more than one breed crossed into a lurcher, them 3/4 are f*cked after a few decent runs, easy to blow out no matter how fit you get them, buy off decent working lurchers, WM

Back in the day when we killed a lot of foxes you could tell the area a fox came from by the colour of its coat,Moreton foxes would be very grey, seen a few white ones in oxton, etc but thats the most unusual coloured coat I've ever seen, nice thing as well, WM
