  1. I'd say lots of dogs were doubled up many moons ago on bigger stuff, was it always frowned upon? Or is it only in the last few decades that this practice has became unacceptable? When did standards become the norm? Anyone old enough to answer. Many a post have stated that dogs were dime a dozen ages ago, and better than average at that, so I'd imagine standards were different to those of today.
  2. Few pounds worth there five feet down?
  3. Did you never use them Neil, you said you had 3? Strange item to collect if not to use them. I know a man in my area decided to try the digging game, he was a shooting man, while out digging on day he was as you say Neil an over zealous individual on the bar and put it through the dogs head, no more dog, his own dog mind, he was asked out no more nor did he ever get involved again. Anyone can make a tool look bad, but they all had/have their uses.
  4. Not that stupid to have one in your kit if box or collar fail, (technology has a tendency to fail now and then), or you could do like some on here and let a 2nd dog in, I'd prefer the bar.
  5. A finding bar probably became less important with the introduction of technology(box and collar), but was a vital tool in its day, ferreting and terriers, I still bring it and use it occasionally, I was brought up using it and old habits die hard.
  6. Jesus lads, lighten up, only a bit of fun, everyone getting a bit edgey, not long to go now, days getting slightly cooler, evening drawing back a bit, dogs the same after lying about all summer getting fat and lazy, they know the seasons too you know. Good few lads on the lurcher section chomping at the bit, itching to go, some already have while making excuses like getting a pup going or farmers looking numbers reduced. I have a 17 month old lurcher who is ready but won't see anything til mid September. Patience lads, another month or so and the summer will be a distant memory.
  7. A good imagination for the journey home is a must, you don't want to be coming on here and telling the truth, keep it simple, a small exaggeration is sometimes better, also a camera, how do you expect to get patted on the back if you have no proof.
  8. I said it before and I'll say it again, there are more liars in the dog game than not.
  9. How does the box and collar work fair out in rock, surly solid rock hampers signal?
  10. I agree with that, docking the easiest thing in the world to do, so do it yourself. New laws here in Ireland too regarding micro chipping, it will be decades before it becomes the norm, it just can't be policed at the moment, lack of manpower and funds, there will be the odd one caught and made an example of,but like the TV licence, when caught you are given X amount of time to sort it.
  11. Lol, I've already asked yea for a look at your Mrs, get a pic up and I'll comment no more. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/359299-havana/page-2 Im only playing with you anyway dear For the others, I mean this type of deal I think you are more interested in providing a playground for your pets than anything else, be better to get your dogs out in natural environments and let them learn smells, obstacles and so on, a dog will learn nothing from running the same 5 or 6 metre pipe to the same cage. I had not seen that pic of your Mrs, looks very nice indeed, i

  13. If the fox does not bolt and the dog comes out after an hour/day/week, how can you be certain he has succeeded in dispatching his foe, whereas an earth dog, you know the score when you dig to him? I've never done rocks so don't know, but with earth work you get to see and contribute to the end result.
  14. looks a great place for a bolt, I'd find it hard not to let a terrier run that.
  15. Lol, is that the way Wicklow people talk?
  16. Them small local shows tend to attract local riff raft Pablo, don't know he man myself but comes across as someone who is trying to make a few quid out of hunting in general, I was actually going to attend last one but got fishing invitation so went there, you local to that area Pablo? All shows are local to someone they must all atract riff raff so I'm sure they do, would you be comfortable bringing your dogs to a show?

  18. Neil, in previous post you say dog done 6 minutes and was given half an hour down time in between, how many times would a dog be entered in a trial?
  19. If they kept to themselves then why are they parading their dogs around a show for?
  20. How do you know he's selling pups?
