Been known to actually jump in a boat Kev. There was a chap we called Walkie who own one of the licensed boat it Totnes and his boat was mooed up just above Totnes old bridge. He would never believe a salmon would jump in a boat, well one day a chap came it the pub and said just watched a Salmon jump in your boat from the bridge. He thought he was pulling his leg. In the end he went down and checked the boat sure enough the fish was in the boat. Cheers Arry

I was on a crew on the Dart Kev. All gone now they took all the license away must have been about twenty boats when I was a boy crew. Slowly dwindled, first the Fly fishermen bought the licence then they stopped renewing them. In the end two or three boats wasn't worth doing no salmon. River is full of seals and no fish now, they used to take a few out you can imagine the outcry now if you even talk of a cull. Fond mémoires of sitting on the fore shore waiting for a salmon to jump or on a calm day see one as we called it volling (not sure of the spelling). Volling was a salmon traveling

Good contender I also think. I think I discounted it as in some pictures it has a hairy cap. But now think you could be right mate. Weeping Widow WWW.WILDFOODUK.COM Unlike the name suggests the Weeping Widow is not a poisonous mushroom but has a bitter taste making it rather inedible. The ‘weeping’ seems to refer to the... I'll be honest I don't really know. Could be "Inky mushroom" poisonous or "Scaly wood mushroom" which I'm not familiar with. I defonatly would not be eating it. There is thousands of fungi and I now a few but hard from a photo. I keep saying I'm no expert. I've just taught myself the good ones to eat. If you have an iPhone Seek by inature is a good app for lot of plant, bugs and mushrooms but would not trust it with my life. Cheers Arry

A lot of maize grown here this year I would say more than other years. Rape is well down and what I did see didn't look that good. I think I read somewhere that rape production is down by 40% in the uk this year. the maize is looking good but they recon the roots go deep. Grass however looks f****d. They did make hay but it was short and now they have started to feeding it. Cheers Arry

Obgrey's post caught my eye Hod Carrying. But I have had a lot of jobs. Was a different time though, you could just turn up and ask for a start not like now ticket for this ticket for that health and safety etc. The first job I had was in about 1965 at 14 at a market garden for a tight old f****r Mr Hallkins. Payed by the hour 10d and a half pence old money (f**k that less than 5p). He had a little book called a Ready Reckoner so many hours at such I such price. Then took on two paper rounds while still at school. Left school became an apprentice Electrician for Dartington Hall wor
