  1. A lot of users post on facebook, which has reduced the amount of activity on forums across the internet to be honest. Although threads on forums can be static and brought back easily, with facebook its a live feed and things seem to pop up for a day or week and be lost again...
  2. The lens size goes hand in hand with magnification and image detail/sensitivity. I agree with your point but increasing focal length will reduce sensitivity of the unit, you state an increased lens does not govern magnification, there both directly related, you try using a 1mm 10x scope.
  3. Depends if your talking for use as a spotter or use as a rifle scope. I would save and buy a thermal for spotting 100%.
  4. So your saying the ATN model above is not a 50mm lens, like its quoted? The only way that scope with 17 micron sensor and 50mm lens gets to 4.5x mag is utilising extra magnification on the eye display side. Unless it was fitted with a 12micron sensor which it definitely is not.. Exactly the same principle behind why a Helion 17 micron sensor with 50mm lens gives 4.1x mag, and a Trail 17 micron sensor with 50mm lens gives 2.7x mag. The helion model is magnified on the eye display giving 4.1x, same with all Helion models, the Trail models do not, to aid with eye relief and are at there nat
  5. The human sized detection range on a Trail XQ50 is 1800metres. Notice they are both the same sensor size and lens size, the ATN is not a native 4.5x it gets this magnification by, increasing the mag on the eye display. The Pulsar does not pull this trick. The pulsar can also be mounted much further back. Personally I would avoid ATN like the plague they have had x5 UK distributors and all have binned them due to issues with products and company.
  6. The pulsar range of thermal scopes only use Hot White or Black, as these are the best for detection and identification , the handheld models use different colour palettes though.
  7. I've been torn between NV and thermal a few times, both have different benefits... For rabbits, yes I can shoot on high mag with good ID with my NV .... BUT Thermal fitted to my HMR allows me to Have a compact unit, lightweight scope, no bulky IR torches. Huge field of view with anything alive instantly detected, my Trail XQ50 will pickup rabbit sized heat sources 400-500yds, I only use it to shoot out to 150yds on rabbits anything past that on rabbit sized heat sources can be difficult to 100% ID although knowing the land, numbers together, size, etc when scanning furt
  8. Life expectancy should be as long as any other piece of electrical equipment, these being digital units.. They come new with 3 year warranty..
  9. I don't think you will find anything as eye friendly as tubed night vision, its not bad though, well I've been using them for 5 year with no issue, but some people do prefer using the red or green palette option, I always use the white or black option, on the right night black hot is amazing it's like night vision in a sense...
  10. I think it affects people differently , It doesn't bother me that much, but it does some people, saying that most of the time mines fitted to the roof of the vehicle and I'm looking at a screen inside the cab, much better for scanning around quick, but on foot I just use it as normal.
  11. Just give me a shout Mole Trapper, when you decide on something..
  12. Positive You see anything alive with a heat source within the units detection range. You can scan quickly , rabbits, foxes, deer, with there back to you, doesn't matter, you see it, unlike NV were you sometimes need eyeshade. I can detect rabbit sized heat sources with for example a Helion XQ50F at 600yds They are totally covert, no IR source is needed. Compact units with great battery life. Rapid Target acquisition when trying to get on target, LOTS quicker than NV , also very fast multiple shots You can shoot into woodland no issue if you can see i
  13. I've been having a play with some .223 loads using Varget, need to work the load up a little more, its a compressed load, 26gr looks like its getting there..
  14. All on the Pulsar models are good and have different benefits but... If I could only have one model as an allrounder, it would probably be a Trail XQ50 based on the below. Your getting a 50mm lens with a 2.7x optical magnification that gives a great field of view for scanning along with the benefits of a larger lens...i.e it performs better in poor weather and gives better detail. The Trail model is a not much bigger than a Helion , so if use a neck strap fitted with a weaver rail you can use it as a spotter no problem at all and it brings all the above benefits... plus you can
  15. Yes it was popular, tried it myself with specialist machined mount, the camera lenses always shift POI, better with a proper Pulsar lens for a doubler.
  16. These are cracking compressors lads, go to 300barg, but I would only take bottles to 290barg as the bursting disc goes just around 305barg, two seconds to replace with supplied spares.. No import tax to pay either coming from Germany.. I can confirm there a good deal. Two inline filters one for oil one for water, can be dried out/cleaned, plenty of replacements in kit also... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30MPa-Air-Compressor-Pump-PCP-Electric-High-Pressure-System-Rifle-Hot-Sale-220V/322582124253?epid=9004816124&hash=item4b1b6496dd:g:r34AAOSwT-FZAuDC
  17. If your using a CZ 527, and want to use 40gr vmax try around 12.5gr to 12.7gr Lil Gun with COL 1.890 -1.900" with a light crimp.. Should be great. Its a compressed load also.
  18. Forgot to say tried pistol primer and small rifle primer, absolutely no difference in accuracy , but the small rifle primer gave slightly higher POI and better velocity .
  19. Walshie I was using 35gr max and winchester brass with either H110 12.3gr or lil gun 12.9gr, nice load and accurate, dropped plenty of foxes but did have a few run on 30yds and drop. The 40gr buck the wind better and hit harder, although I have to single load them using a shot sled as mine have a long COL, but very tight groups.
  20. I would avoid this extreme conversion the camera lenses used are very delicate and the internals and wear in the focus mechanism can cause all sorts of point of impact shifts.
