jukel123 9,976
Spain has armed guards on their trains. The train companies in the UK have been doing away with guards on trains.

Evidently the train driver was alerted by passengers, and radioed ahead to have the train rerouted to the station it stopped at. What would have happened if it had been one of the driverless trains that the unions are so against ? Cheers.

Alternatively, I imagine the train companies would have a designated facility on board to alert of danger. No booking offices, no guards, no drivers. The train companies vision of the future is a terrorist's dream and a nightmare for passengers and train staff. Edited November 2 by jukel123

Yes, passengers did call 999 but the driver probably has a pre planned procedure for emergencies. Someone did pull the emergency cord but the driver didnt immediately stop the train, he went on to be rerouted into a station where emergency services were already waiting. These are just things being reported, we will, I hope get far more information as things unfold. Cheers.

Lets be honest,if you was a UK train guard, working for peanuts, and having to deal with utter pondweed everyday ..would you want to carry peppersray/wear body armour and carry a tazer ???and make yourself a target? They cant keep a couple of mouthy teenagers in check these days, thanks to old Tony Blair...let alone risking upsetting anyone of colour 5

Do you support the train companies' efforts to close ticket offices, leaving platforms with no railway employee presence on often isolated stations? How about the absence of guards on trains and driverless trains? You appear to support these measures whilst simultaneously opposing the train unions. Good for train company profits. Not so good for passengers and those train staff who would be made redundant. I thought you were a luddite?
