I did, she’s coming up 13 now, she’s provided me with some cracking days out, half bred Hancock, Arthur was her sire

She was a tidy enough wee bitch, ferreted had a good nose on her and took her fair share of feather  also wasn't shy at taking roe. Got caught up at a fence retrieving a hare by some young Aberdeen An

I've a first cross border collie greyhound, over a long time with various collie crosses he is the only Hancock I've owned. He's significantly bigger than the rest i've had which were all border cross

You need to.work it hard enough that it slows itself up but alot a heavy greys are that daft they aint the brain to work it out bit a collie they normally will and once a fast ones running slow using its head and speed your laughing

I thought about getting one of the half crosses at one stage as a general ferreting and all-round dog. Unlike a lot of people I quite liked the look of the collie coloured or black ones.

They were often cheaper on his website than merles obviously not as popular. I’m sure I read or heard somewhere at one stage he was avoiding black greyhounds

The merles sold quicker often pre-booked,thanks to the well known marketing/advertising regime.

One of the reasons lurchers are used instead of straight greyhounds is to slow them down!

Some of the 3/4 bred dogs can almost match greyhounds when they are timed at a greyhound track. The same is true of the straight deer/ grey according to Doherty's book.

I had a 3/4, not from Hancock, but it wasn't an all or nothing type bitch. It's temperament was quite cautious.

We all say we had a great dog in the past . Well this  3/4 I had wasn't great but a definite good un. Cracking  worker and brilliant, sensible pet.

She was good in moonlight as well as the lamp and great at leaping at feathered quarry: pheasants, pigeons and once a grouse. On daylight hares she was generally favourite in the small fields I ran her in. She literally caught hundreds as I lived near a sporting estate where hares were numerous. I didnt bother with 'fair law' at that time, so many were hunted up and killed immediately.  But they were  all eaten or traded.

I've just remembered, for she ate the grouse before I could get it from her, so I shouldn't really count that one.😃

No world beater, but a good un for sure and loads of stamina.

She didn't like other dogs and didn't like people either ( dogs take after their owners lol). One night I knocked the vet up to stitch her.

She snapped at him on the treatment table and he cuffed her in return , which cured her attitude immediately.😃

He was a member of the Coursing Club and I remember him describing her injury as " an honour gained in the field".

Changed days or what?
