i tried to career-map for my kids,found what there would be a projected shortage of,something that couldn’t be mechanised,and they could expand and flourish in,one took the route one didn’t and went his own way.

Would you have went the path you chose in hindsight?

YTS engineering at 16, great idea the YTS but abused massively by the companies who took on youngsters so I never did a ounce of engineering just a cheap cleaner. Went on to Warehousing where I got involved in transport and then a natural progression to waste management and operations.

Disliked everything I've done but I was a shit footballer so my chosen career path was limited. If I could have my time again I would still probably end up the same route as I've taken as I've never been that driven.

I take a great interest in my eight year old grandsons education and future career.

When I ask him what he’d like to do, he tells me he wants to play for Real Madrid, but if he doesn’t make the grade he’d like to be a banker !

Lofty aspirations but at least he has a back up plan ! LOL !

I’d prefer he followed his late dads career and become a diplomat. 
Happily he is very academic and enjoys exams and tests and gets annoyed if he isn’t top of the class in everything, but he also enjoys horse riding, karate, swimming and playing football, so he is having a well rounded childhood, but, as we all know, this can change when they hit the “terrible teens” !

I wish I'd had a proper education and been able to actually choose a career. But your life is just like a raft on an ocean and you beach up wherever the raft dumps you. I would like to have to have served my time as a brickie and started my own business. I've worked with  brickies who were able to say "I built that" or "I worked on that project". It must be quite satisfying to actually create something.

If I never ended up in Borstal at 15...then I would of joined the military like my Dad I dont have many regrets in life tbf ...the choices I made were all my own...you make your bed you lie in it... I've always been interested in doing some teaching/social worker type things... but there's no money in it... few more yrs left on the mortgage and when its all done,I may look in to it...ive got a few trades under my belt,that pay the bills..so something to fall back on...Ive had it in my head,that Im finished grafting and punching my guts out at 50,and I'm  on course so far....will be happy to scratch around for beer money when and as I need it...I chased the coin for yrs...like a mug..but the last few yrs have changed my outlook...i don't need half the shit ive got,like most folks...your Just lead to believe it,by the powers that be

My obsession with dogs and poaching in hindsight was my downfall as a career and job's mostly played second fiddle. The job I wanted on leaving school was working for British Steel as it was good money at the time far better than mining and all the lad's I know including my brother in law around my age are all comfortably retired with a good pension those who did 35 years. I don't blame anyone only myself had an opportunity once installing furnaces and other similar construction on oil refineries that could have took me to different parts of the globe but the odd time I have worked away from home I hated it it was just not for me. I might not have a pot to piss in but I have great memories and met some great lads through poaching and hunting that no amount of money can buy.

I wouldn’t want to change my career path; it went on an upward trajectory from leaving school and becoming a diesel mechanic to retiring 20 years ago as an Airline Engineering Manager.

There were a lot of factors involved in this including luck, being in the right place at the right time, willing to work hard and take risks, willing to go out my comfort zone and learn new skills and not least having two bosses who saw something in me and pushed me hard and gave me opportunities to move up.

I wouldn’t have minded a bit of being a porn star for a few years but other than that I have had loads of careers if I,m not happy I feck off and reinvent myself elsewhere always had the plastering to fall back on for some quick bucks if needed it’s all coming to an end now anyway but no regrets have had a strange and wonderful life crawled out the gutter and done ok for me and mine so can die happy

I never set out to do what I do now because I didn’t know it existed when I was at school. We were advised to do A levels and go to University if we wanted to be anything. This is because most teachers have never left the system and have very little practical life experience

I think the key is to learn about yourself - find out what motivates you and what you’re good at.

I auditioned for porn star but got rejected. I asked for some feedback and got pages and pages.  Penis comically small,  premature ejaculation and too much slavering from my mouth. At least I tried.
