I've met a couple of Texas Rangers, and they were the politest law enforcement officers I've ever seen, but I got the impression they could have you disabled, in a choke hold, in the blink of an eye !

I refuse to believe that cowardice is endemic is US law enforcement, lack of joined up training yes, lack of skilled training yes but cowardice no way…..you wouldn’t go to work if you was.

Regardless of the pay and benefits , being a big city cop in particular is a stressful job. Lots of cops end up with ptsd and drink problems.

The Lawrence enquiry has little or nothing to do with it. The problems started with New Liebour's zeal for multiculturism  and embracing every minority into the system. They didn't understand the minority meant that these groups of people were not mainstream. So they pushed for more BLM in the police even if they were less suitable and able than white candidates. Then they included the gay community in the fast tracked recruitment and also decided to overturn the average 6 male police officers to 1 female. They chose to do this as quickly as possible by recruiting 6 females per 1 male. That lead to duty groups where all new starters begin their 2 year probation being full of females. These females were mostly of a child bearing age and many took advantage of the new  long term maternity leave laws, followed by demands for 'family friendly' shift patterns. As soon as an officer declared herself pregnant she was off front line duties. In most cases for ever. 

So the diminishing number of white male officers found themselves bearing the brunt of working evenings, night shifts and bank holidays with diminishing oppertunities for promotion or specialisation because the wimmin, BLM and Rainbow people all got first pick.

And by now all these wimmin, BLM and Rainbow people are in increasingly charge of the show and promoting like people up the slippery pole.

And then you have the financial changes where police authorities get rewarded for issuing speeding tickets by up front revenue and create less cost than taking less people to court. Even sending samples of drugs, DNA, etc to the private labs costs money so that is restricted wherever possible. The new rules on police authorities keeping proceeds of crime means that they are prioritising criminal enquiries to those where they stand to collect a  financial kick back from the enquiry.

So basically the police force has become a social service with a revenue collection arm. In order to join you now need a degree in criminology which does not include any tests of the candidate's ability or willingness to walk the streets alone in the dark or put themself in harm's way for the benefit of the public.
