I've really gone off guns but the lad had been asking so planned a bit of a day. Took him to the gun shop to trade my silenced .410 for an unsilenced one for as he was struggling to aim around the silencer. They only had expensive ones in. Even the little single barrel we choose was brand new and more than I wanted to pay. The lad then declared he was still wearing his slippers as he had forgot to put his wellies on ?. Another £40  down for new wellies as it was half an hour home and we were already late. £6 a box for .410 cartridges and we walked out kitted up but 200 notes down!

Anyway we had a cracking afternoon, the little gun knocked a few down that I would of been happy with using a 12 bore. He missed a few and got one out sitting in a tree. Even got a nice little summer tipple from the farm shop! Think I need smaller cartridges for the nipper next time as the 3" magnums fairly kicked in the little gun.

Anyway one of my most enjoyable days shooting ever having the lad with me.

Looks like most of my guns. When I traded my silenced.410 in against the new one I told the bloke I'd used it as a tool .....he said "yeah I can tell you have been knocking posts in with it"

I thought get the big cartridges to give him best chance.... didn't think a 410 could kick like that. I'm impressed though, I'd feel over gunned shooting pigeons with a 12 now!

I’ve often wondered if it would safely fire a 9mm

No a 9mm is smaller so it wouldn't fit. They were used as 'garden guns' ... apparently for shooting finches in orchards. The 9mm cartridge is full of dust shot, rats at 10 yards are about its limit

My most used gun Ideal for out with the terriers. Just often gets chucked on the bank and dragged through everywhere.

I was offered a garden gun years ago funny little guns I wished I’d took it but was told the ammo was hard to get hold of.

I've always found it easy enough to get. They aren't any use though. They shoot to tight a pattern close up to be effective on running rats, then the dust shot just seems to spread really quickly and run out of pattern and energy. I've been on tips that were being moved by a machine with hundreds of rats running everywhere....I ended up throwing the gun down, pulling a table leg from the rubbish and beating the rats to death instead ?

They are a curio and not much more
