I knew there was Reds in N Yorks and they get to some size too.

I worked on a monastery site not far from stavs shoot and saw a bloody massive red stag.

you can literally fall over roe round this way, that's why I dont look at them as stalking, you see them stood at the side of roads feeding on the grass verges on the outskirts of town

Well our first shoot of the year went well. It was cold but dry and a bit of sun appeared. Bag was 122 head comprising of 57 duck 56 pheasant 7 partridge and 2 pigeon. My own contribution wa

It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive .

bet you wouldn't, theres no sport in it.. me and a keeper I shoot with are both in the same boat regarding land owners wanting the numbers thining out!

neither of us want to do it but we need to to keep the land

I would love to do it too but I can see how it could become a chore. Especially if there was that many and no outlet for them. Then it would stop being pleasant.

A mate of mine takes orders, he basically drives two mins to a place gets out of the car shoots what he needs and is back home in 15 mins sometimes a bit longer if he needs a few?

On that note, I don’t have a problem with dog lads, it’s how I started out and we would run anything ( this will of been early 90’s ) what drives me mental is when they drive across fields and through gates, when I was up at the shoot yesterday I passed a field on the boundary and they had been on it with a motor, the crop damage was stupid, in all the years me and Mosh did it we never once did any damage and wouldn’t dream of taking a motor across someone’s crop

Exactly mate , I like to see a lurcher run too , its not the dogs its the scumbag owners . Lazy twats driving the land with no respect and leaving animals lying about. In days goneby they would have been on and off the land with nobody knowing.  I often have thoughts about offering lads out with the dogs out lamping but then I dont think there is anyone I would trust not to backtrack poaching so I just shoot them myself ?

I’ve only done it once where I took a lad out on one of my spots, told him not to go on there without me and he did just that, so I’ll never do it again, 90% of the land I have permission on now I used to poach, if I’d known the owner back then I might of thought better of it, only a few weeks ago his lad rang him to say there was lads on the fields with dogs, he flew up in the Land Rover, didn’t give them chance to explain themselves, just battered the pair of them ?

Feeding again this morning and I was there for first light, it was a lovely still, cold morning, deathly quiet, just with the odd pheasant call to break the silence, after feeding I was heading back to the farm and I bumped into the ranger, now he’s a lovely lad but he does ask to many questions, he was asking about deer numbers in certain areas, so I did what any responsible keeper would do and sent him in completely the wrong direction to where I’ve been seeing them around our fields ??

Intercepted my lamp shy vixen and a dog barking it's head off earlier. The vixen was cut off from its escape  rout but worked it out, it was comical how she ended up in front of my car as I looked back at it.

The dog fox continued barking until she gave a little scream and he shut up never to be heard again!

I love these little interactions.

Only two I heard all night on my place.

You guys hearing any?
