I think I'm pretty safe blacky. I think the carrot and wheatgerm has done for him. As long as he's on that, I think we're all pretty safe from a damned good clemming!

Bill if I have read that right the majority might want  fifty runs a night but I I bet most don't get that and  would be suited with that in a few outing of course there's a good few who do get more but I would say they aren't in majority

Maybe it's the dog aggression that makes them like that, the point I was making was our labs in general are bred to be placid sociable obedient dogs. Dog aggressive labs wouldn't be popular on a shoot day in a trailer with a dozen others or sat round a flight pond in the dark  would they.

I don’t think the lab was used for be aggressive more it’s nose etc the lab was crossed with boxer or greyhound /mastiff traditionally

My mate had a lab which was the best hunting dog I’ve ever seen. It was relentless in persuit of game. I think to get the best out of them in a lurcher thought they would need many generations of breeding the best to the best. Just like we’ve done with coursing dogs. All the best coursing dogs I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a few living on the the fens, have all been bred coursing dog to coursing dog, not F1 first crosses. I think if this approach was applied to lab crosses in 15/20 years time, there could be some really good dogs about.

Racist  lol, got to say mind, I've seen a few very aggressive labs. But was that down to poor breeding and socialisation?

Mate,dog aggression is the last thing you want in a pigdog that usually hunts in packs.You will never find a dog aggressive pig dog here.They have to be sociable.I just don't like labs as a breed,whether they are good examples or not and def not bred intro running dogs for me.

probably both, but you bet your boots if there is trouble with dogs on a shoot it will be a black lab, I know there will be more black labs than anything else, but they cant even get on with each other lol.
