I have nothing against sharia law when it’s practised in a Muslim country, “when in Rome” and all that.
Britain is a Christian country with The Church of England as the state religion and laws based on common and civil laws refined over centuries.

When I lived in a country with sharia law, it was my choice and I obeyed their law. Is it too much to ask for people coming here to live by and obey our laws ?

As for winning an argument, no, I’m simply stating what I’ve seen. You say what you’ve seen, on the internet, is pretty tame. Watch it in real life then your opinion may change.

Why bring my family into it ? I’m sure most people know I have Saudi Muslim family, members,my daughter in law is a Saudi Muslim, but has no intention of moving here, she’s happy where she lives, my grandson is nominally Muslim but is being brought up as my two late children were and will decide when he’s older what religion he takes , if any.

You talked complete nonsense about sharia punishment, something you know absolutely nothing about and I gave a more accurate view of it, and you don’t like it.

Cheers.

I meant no offence when I mentioned your family. Genuinely.

BTW, I just saw your edit; I found “Wealth Of Nations”  a heavy tome, but tried my best to gain something from it and it does make some very valid observations for a book written so long ago.

Just for balance , I have also read the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, another book with very interesting observations.

Then again, I once read the entire “War and Peace” just because someone told me there was a chapter on wolf hunting with borzoi 😂👍

Cheers.

Yes, that was the rule when I lived there, probably still is.

You can’t “gain” Saudi citizenship, there is no immigration as such . You can get a residence visa if you work there, but it’s cancelled if you leave the job. You never qualify for any state benefits or hospital treatment unless it’s part of your contract.

since I retired 22 years ago I’ve returned on family visa or as a guest of a Saudi friend , but that’s all changed now, you can get a get a tourist or visit visa on line in minutes.

The place has changed remarkably since I first went in the 70’s.

Cheers.

Just being a bit of an Anorak here, but Abdul is Arabic for slave and is an insult to call an Arab Abdul.
Most “Abdul’s” normally have gods name attached as in “Abdullah” or Abdulrahman, meaning “slave of God”.

It also reminded me of the Monty Python sketch when they said “Kamal Attaturk had an entire menagerie named Abdul !

Cheers.
