Reckon your right gaz,is that's your parents bitch behind him?

Yeh that's her. She was about 5 there.
She looks lot sharper faced than ones ive seen ,more workman like.
Oh she works. lol. Menacing to those that don't know her. Couple on here have met her and wouldn't come through the gate. That's with me there. Lol.

Tommy27 was a brave soul. He came into the kitchen. Stood still like a statue and only moved when he was told to move ?

She would of tackled fox pre ban too ?

but visitors aren't going to come in your garden and shouting and knocking f**k out your dog,I think would defo put most thieves off.Though if I was a burgler etc and could pick I'd rather face a Doberman than any other guard breed, I reckon most would fold if you went at them and I doubt they'd have the power of an alsation, rotty etc if if came to it Edited by JDHUNTING

There are still good ones out there if you know where to look.   Check out Bellevue kennels in Ireland.   My bitch is 10 after Christmas. She lives with my mum and dad. If you can get passed her

I stopped and had a chat with a lad the other week who was walking 2 very capable looking Dobermans they were German imports cropped eared jobs he was going into the bloodlines and how they were from

THe result of dogs becoming fashionable? They were all the rage in the 80s

When did they turn to shyt?

They still have a reputation, but they're soft, unhealthy and generally useless now.

The fact they still have a reputation when they've been completely ruined for so long must mean something.

Anyone here have one back then?

How would you describe them?

I know what you mean, there one type of dog , I never have one as they lack bottle , my sister- in law had one a bitch , they make lot of noise but that it , get a well bred Alsatian from e/e lines you wont beat them, or a well bred rottie they very good .But one breed that are very good guards that don't mess about are well bred ridgebacks , they take some stopping deff , I seen one years ago on a farm it would bite you no prob good dog ridgeback .

There's good and bad in all breeds Ray. You say your sister had a shit bag of a Doberman. My missus cousin has got 2 ridgebacks. They are 10 stone a piece and struggle to drag their arses off the sofa never mind see what's happening.

Fat, useless, lazy wankers. Like the owner. Lol.

Get a good dobe and you won't need anything else. It's just finding one.

Must be something wrong with a 10 stone ridgeback. Like you say Gaz, there's good and bad in all breeds. I've only had 1 dobie and 4 ridgebacks, so I might have been unlucky with the dobie temperament wise.

If I had to trust one of those breeds to protect my house it would be the ridgeback all day long. Especially the nasty piece of work bitch i have at the moment.

In my limited opinion ridgebacks are bolder, stronger and more likely to do what was required.

There used to be a big old sikh bloke that lived by us, he had 2 of them.

He used to walk them along the Thames where we were fishing. That was in the early 90s when we were kids.

They'd walk either side of him and do exactly as they were told.

If he said 'friend', they'd put their heads down and let us stroke them. If he said 'smile' they'd lift their lip.

He ruled over those dogs and they served him well.

He had a shop on our estate for years - it was only ever boken into once.

Almost all of the ones i've seen over the past 25 years look aged and stiff by 5 years old. As youngsters they all look athletic but tighten up with age.

Recon Louis Dobermann would turn in his grave.

The only two i ever liked were called Zeus and Apollo..! ;)

i was asked to train two doberman males by two separate people at different times, just basic stuff. i found both to be quite pleasant, but thick. neither had any character at all, neither guarding instinct nor prey drive just a couple of lolloping dopes really.

bloke near me has one of the blue ones , thats a big dopey idiot of a dog too!

thats not to say they are all useless of course

There's young liver coloured one round here seen it as a pup in Summer ,they walk it in a pink harness ugly looking thing.walks funny as well like it's got joint problems or it's shitting itself lol

I've never seen a nice liver one. Look more like chocolate labs. We had one, a big dog, and complete different animal to the bitch.

He would bark but wouldn't bite, soft as shit. Gained weight like a lab. Really struggled to keep it off him. Bad hips, legs, joints. Generally unhealthy animal. Had to be put to sleep at 7 years old.0EB79191-32F4-4EF2-9235-A62F6D68FAF3_zps

I used to keep German/Dutch livers......they were nice animals.

I seen two absolute cracking black/tans back in the summer, pups with cropped ears being walked at a vets in North Essex......I asked the yard boy walking them about them and was told "sorry mate, can't talk about them"

It's criminal that such a young breed (barely 200 years?) can be so ruined considering that Herr Doberman had to mellow them down from the original breeding.

was it a ginger haired fella over Canning Town way with a couple of chocolate ones.My pal over there has a couple and although they're good for them they're still not all that.Very Scatter brained and although they would get into someone in prey drive I don't know why he ducks about with them as he has much better dogs.

No mate these were black it was over Chigwell way i saw them.... like i say i have no idea about there ability or uses but i do think a well conditioned one up on its toes with that nice sleek shiny coat and alert posture is a beautiful looking animal regardless.

We seem to be the worst culprits for it,you don't see many old English lines of GSD either,we just wreck them all.
