Blackbriar 8,569
I've always been a fan of the Principle of Occam's Razor - which can be paraphrased as "the simplest explanation is probably the truth"....... The thinking is that the more variables and assumptions that an explanation requires, the less likely it is to be true. Edited August 3, 2016 by Blackbriar
neems 2,406
Not exactly on topic, but I was thinking the other day,I've never met a stupid conspiracy theorist (excluding Muslims and Christians). In fact everyone I've ever spoken to at any length has struck me as being quite intelligent.

People are just clueless and don't have an open mind so resort to name calling...much easier than doing some research and formulating an argument. The worse types are the so called educated middle classes...They're too proud to admit that they beloved MSM whether it be the guardian or Telegraph is absolutely full of crap and their journalists are terrible so their counter argument tends to be smug condescending looks.

You're wasting your breath talking to people like that about those subjects. They probably just don't want to waste mental energy entertaining any of the millions of insane conspiracy theories,so just go with the pre-approved narrative they read in the papers and see on the news. You either come across as a tinfoil hatter or a raving lunatic, but either way they you're not talking them round.
DogFox123 1,379
I think it's the opposite, conspiracy theorists usually lack knowledge on the subject and vouch for something easier for themselves to understand.

In fact everyone I've ever spoken to at any length has struck me as being quite intelligent. I've met or heard loads of stupid ones. They are rarely people with in depth knowledge of any subject. Their style of research is usually involves latching onto a conspiracy, then scanning the Internet to find 'proof', whilst carefully ignoring anything which might contradict there preferred theory. They often find other groups who also believe the same theory, thus cementing the theory in their own minds.

stop.end 4,082
Why would the Pentagon have had a particularly advance air defence system? Pre 911 I don't think the yanks ever considered such an aerial attack on the mainland at all plausible. I'd of thought the risk associated with having a system like what our warships have too great in such a commercially busy domestic area. The risk of accidentally shooting down a commercial airline would probably be too great to justify it. Dealing with aerial threats in peace time is the USAFs job with their fighters. The purpose of the Air Defense Identification Zone is in theory to stop any aerial threats ever penetrating as far as DC. The only conspiracy theory I've really found that I give any credence is the JFK assassination. LOL...oh you think.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj8Ccgen_Zk
ChrisJones 7,975
Yep ignore the conclusions and just focus on scrutinising the media. They can be proven wrong very easily but it's best not to put 2 and 2 together and get 5. I don't mind playing with ideas but I try to be objective and say it's a strong possibly, for example saudi and Turkey funding ISIS, the even fence is very strong and it's probably that the CIA and US government know but we would lose credibly if we turn all Alex Jones. Can't argue with that, Nik. The media is a for profit business. They will do whatever they need to, even if that means hacking dead people's phones.
