There's no mistaking my Romany lineage... My nickname at school was Abdul lol

Well seems as my daughter has her honours in anthropology and now works for a company designing cutting edge dna testing equipment I think I will go with what she says lol.

Mitochondrial eve whose dna we all share.... Except neems of course

On my fathers side, almost all Jock. On my mothers, almost all Taffy.

So the same as Astanley, pure Celt. Though I like to think of myself as 100% Scouse!

Gt Grandfather was the youngest son of a fairly big house and lands up in the land of the Jocks. Inheriting nothing he ran away to sea age 14, we have all his old sea papers including the SS Gt Britain, the first iron ship, built by Brunnell. He ended up in Liverpool where he met a Scottish girl and they had a family. His son, my grandfather, also married a Liverpool girl of Scottish decent..!

My mothers maiden name is Jones, and my Gt grandparents on her side were Welsh speakers that moved to Anfield as the suburbs of cheap working class houses sprang up there at the latter half of the 18 hundreds. My mother can remember, as a little girl being taken on trips back to Wales and listening to the language.

Me, I was born in the old Oxford St hospital, almost in the city center, right by Paddy's wigwam, so I'm about as Scouse as you'll get. :victory:

I'll have a look later

We'll obviously have common ancestors further down the line, there's another theory that humanity could have originated in Australia.

People with Neanderthal genes have a gene that Africans don't apparently there are significant differences between africans and most other races

Heard that myself. Africans don't have tail bones like some white people.

I've done the ancestry DNA test it's quite good. I did it because I'm researching my family tree and wanted to have as much info as possible

I'm

70% British

18% Western Europe (France, Germany, Northern Italy excludes Spain)

5% Irish

6% Scandinavian

1% Eastern Europe

Dragging this back up....

Anyway, so for Xmas I was given one of these Autosomal DNA tests from Ancestry. The results......

40% Europe West

28% Scandinavia

12% Ireland

10% Great Britain

8% Italy/Greece

2% Iberian Peninsula

Compared to the average Brit from the East Mid's...

41% British

21% Europe West

16% Irish

I'm a f***ing ethnic immigrant! LOL. I'm now wondering if I should have voted Remain seeing as apparently I have more in common with the Europeans than my 'own' British! HA.

Anyway, I found this quite interesting and raises a lot of questions about my families ancestry. Just a conclusion to this thread really. Cheers

Got some good names in there though like Sage Tysoe Shadrack and Kushie lol

For anyone interested in the DNA tests, just a heads up, when you read into the analysis of it all there's a fair degree of ambiguity and error. You just have to look at it as a rough idea rather than a precise evaluation. Personally I find it hard to believe that I'm only 10% British (Anglo Saxon) but 40% West European.

To the uninitiated such a thing could prompt a very awkward conversation with your mother!
