dai dogs 1,802
I know a old farmer that got 10 apple trees in the field by the side of his drive hes always said for me to help myself. When I was there last week i asked him where his old beagle dog was. His reply - He passed away hes buried in the field with the rest of the good old dogs iv had over the years When i looked across to the field there was a fresh new apple tree planted.
pesky1972 5,547
Why no apples? Circle of life and all that. What a great way to pay tribute to a good mutt.

As above good old way to remember your old pals Seen on the net you can do that for people now lol :hmm: Bury them in a field and plant an apple tree on top? I think you may find that has happened to a number of people over the years that the police are still looking for!
random 659
I agree with the circle of life theory on this one, those trees are planted as a reminder, what better then to have apples forever and smile at the memories those dogs gave him whilst enjoying them,i understand you leaving the most recent tree for a bit but tuck in and enjoy the fruit of that dogs labour my friend!! KES2 171
Strangely, I also buried my wonderful ridgeback, who died aged 14, in the orchard on his bed with his favourite rubber bone - someone will wonder about that in years to come. Seemed the right thing to do.

cragman 2,812
Sounds a good idea that! As above good old way to remember your old pals Seen on the net you can do that for people now lol They do that on my patch at work. "Life for a life", costs about 500£ a tree. RSPB are just getting in on the act now too and have opened a bit of land up for the same thing. You can put your loved ones ashes in with the tree. 11 apple trees = 11 dogs that farmer may of had if he's put one under each tree? terryd 8,808
that is a very nice idea . I plan to bury my fella on a south facing bank covered in bracken and hazel with lots of blue bells. Its where my old JR is and its stunning on a spring day. Gives me a tingle every time I pass it
