Boxing At The Weekend...

Loved Tyson as a kid, I was 10 when he beat Trevor Berbick for the world title.. remember it like yesterday...but.. he wasn't dedicated to the game, you can make all the excuses in the world and say a 20 year old Tyson would beat anyone, the truth is a still young Tyson lost to better fighters, he was 30 when he lost to.Holyfield, 35 when he lost to Lewis.. early 20s when he lost to Buster Douglas (freak punch, or zero preparation?)...

The bottom line is Tyson wasn't mentally strong enough to train properly, live properly, conduct himself properly and he lost to the best he fought as they were... Tyson will always be up there as he was so exciting when he first hit the scene, but he was pretty much finished by 25

Tbf Evander Holyfield said that Tyson was the hardest worker he'd ever seen. The trouble is, he always had roguish tendancies, I suppose that stems from his upbringing. The likes of Cus, Bill Cayton & Jim Jacobs could control it for the most part, although he was prone to the odd blowout.

The begining of the end was when Jacobs died and Don King got his claws in to him, giving him what he wanted, surrounded by yes man, and the things he desired were definitely not in his best interests.

Is it a surprise he went off the rails really, young and immature, coming from nothing to being the biggest sporting star on the globe with more money than you could ever imagine.

His style was so finely tuned and only Kevin Rooney could hone his skills, it's a style that requires everything to be pin point, once it's slipped, he was basically left with nothing barring a big punch, the defence, jab, combinations, all waned.

Usyk has proven time and again that you don't have to be a giant to win world titles. And you don't have to be a foul mouthed idiot like Fury. He's always  conducted himself in exemplary fashion and brought some dignity back to the game.

He's demolished Fury, Joshua and Dubois twice.Top man, I hope he has one more fight and retires as he says.

He will feature as one of the all time greats when the history books are written.

Spot on that

All very true and well documented...

I think most of the great boxers have had to deal with adversity in their lives, for many it is their escape and path to a better life..

No doubt Tyson was the biggest name on the planet at a very young age, he had everything too soon and no shortage of people to take advantage of him... but when arguing different boxers and who is the greatest etc, Tyson will always always been thrown in the mix and pre buster Douglas Tyson who could argue, but his frailties, mentality etc was put to the test a few times and he came up short.. ultimately his choices shaped him and his career, we can all make a million excuses for our behaviours but you are ultimately responsible...true greats make the right choices 99% of the time

Yeah he had a good chin, but unlike a Ali, he couldn't find a way when his skills waned, I suppose it makes It that much difficult when you have all the physical disadvantages.

Without a doubt, that's no excuse, it was his character that had the final say, he wasn't the only fighter to have been born in dire poverty, look at Jack Johnson, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Tyson wasn't unique in that regard.

I really hope that Usyk can see beyond the money bags and not give Fury another fight , it damages his legacy if he does imo

Fury claiming he was robbed again....just embarrassing now

No need to create bad vibes after such an important night of boxing it wasn't just a masterclass display but history was achieved and the bad language there's no need there's hundreds of thousands if not millions of kids searching the net worldwide this morning looking for anything to do with last night's fight they don't need to be hearing that if they come across it..

Usyk is a class act and has more than proven himself at heavyweight now, I'd like to see him retire. If he fights again I'd rather see him face Kabayel than Parker. I 😘 ke Parker but can't see him getting anywhere with Usyk. Kabayel has good movement and body punches, maybe a test. Breidis has given Usyk his hardest fight so far. Good to see the back of 19 stone heavyweights for a while😄
