Squirrel_Basher 17,102
I had a feeling you didn't mean it literally Lee and I totally agree with not putting a young dog in where you are uncertain . 1 Quote Link to post
man o kent 269
Surely the length of the dig depends on the type of dog that is working the gear. You may have a dog that will stay for hours, and be lifted taking very little stick. But that type of dog that some say is only fit to breed from May come a croppa if the quarry is full on. It's horses for courses, it's the way your dog works, not the length of time under the sod that makes a difference 4 Quote Link to post
timmy k 593
Man o Kent that's why a lot of people like to see a dog/bitch being bred from with a good few seasons under their belt, that way if their worked regular enough they should of come across all sorts of different scenarios and if they shine throughout happy days, but again (and people may get bored of hearing this) it's all about honesty, honesty about the dogs performance and the honesty of the man who owns the dogs to give a truthful interpretation to all who wish to know 2 Quote Link to post

man o kent 269
That's fair enough, but if you have a dog that's a bit hard, why put it through a lengthy dig just to prove a point, and then have it in sick bay for weeks. Ending up only having been out a couple of times in a season. if it does exactly what you ask/expect it to do then don't worry about this fixation with long digs! 2 Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Lol or excuse why they can't come . 1 Quote Link to post
timmy k 593
I've never been one for looking for the deep digs, I'd much prefer a couple of 3 or 4 footers but every season your gonna hit a deep spot and when you do and you know for a fact it isn't a problem because the dogs been their before and proven itself, hard dog or not it should stay or don't breed. No ifs or buts 4 Quote Link to post
