Fair comment mate, all the whippets I’ve seen or owned could have done with a bit more size with the addition of greyhound, ped whippets are up for the work but are let down by there lack of physicality most of the time. They’re just lacking that bit extra unfortunately

Good to hear some conversation regarding Whippets...

When I first came South from my native Wales, we settled in Portsmouth...

There was a long tradition of poaching/mouching style of roustabout hunting in the area.

It seemed as everywhere I wandered, I encountered lads with whippets.

 In my opinion,..Whippets (Ped and Non-Ped) and Rabbiting,.... go together like Apple Pie and Cream,...I loves 'em..

Probably the same with any working dog, only a % of a litter will excel, some are mediocre and a few are never there. If you are in it just for sport and days out with the dogs the mediocre ones will suit most people, if you make a living from it maybe not.

A non-ped whippet I had in the early 70's;

Equaly at home racing or working.

As can be seen by his "pedigree", he had that bit of collie a couple of generations back.

Sadly shot by a 'keeper whilst coursing a hare.

I know you have worked both. if you wanted a whippet pup nowadays for mooching, ferreting, what would you go for a ped or non ped?.

That's a hard one mate.

Ive been tempted to get a non-ped, as I would have a go at the racing again, and the peds simply can't live with the non-peds at racing.

If the racing didn't work out, a non-ped would do what I want in the field these days; lamping, and the odd day time hare and roe.

Thats not to knock the peds, I think what they lack in blistering speed, ( I know, I know, speed isn't everything), they make up for in stamina that the non-peds may lack.

By far the best ped I've seen was Mally's Vixen. I've seen her run all night in atrocious conditions and take big bags of rabbits and was top class around the nets;

But if I was faced with the choice, I'd probably go down the non-ped route for what I need.

I have never seen non ped advertised anywhere. can't even find any available for stud. or is it a tight knit thing in racing circles?
