Flying Lesson

Recommended Posts

My lad had a flying lesson the other day. They asked if I fancied being a passenger/observer for the flight, so I went.

Something I didn't expect though was having to wait short of the runway for a Spitfire to land. :icon_eek: Didn't get a picture though as I couldn't see over the dash from the back seat. Just as we were leaving another one took off and I didn't get a picture of that either as it caught me by surprise. :icon_redface: The noise of a Spitfire at full chat is something everyone should hear.

At least I got a picture of the plane we went in.

Over 200 hours in gliders, went solo after 18.5 hours and about 85 flights Solo pic

Best fun I ever had while Gliding was wave soaring up in Scotland... We would trailer the gliders up to Aboyne, 350 miles at 60mph was not fun...but the flying was worth it To climb over 12000ft you

Yuppie ! Lol

I had a flying lesson once. Someone bought it for my father in law who bottled it a bit, and gave it to me. I have to say, its an experience, but you don't half feel vulnerable at 1000ft only surrounded by a bubble of fibreglass. The landing, into a crosswind, was a bit hairy too. Probably not for me. Mistakes are expensive when you're flying something marginally stronger than a shoebox.

Yeah, saw that, but this lesson had already been paid for and we were over that way in the week.

It's definitely an expensive hobby, one of my friends went for his PPL, and he was saying the full thing costs about £10k, plus an extra few grand for an Instrument Rating and Night Rating. Then unless you've got you're own plane, hiring a one can be £200 per hour. You need to have a fair bit of money behind you to keep that up.

I know training to be an airline pilot can cost up to £100,000, but that must be a hell of a job.

I got a mad idea into my head a few years ago that being scared of heights it would be a good idea to try for my ppl ( h ) ......like a gullible twat i had an introductory day in a Robinson R44 4 seater.....then started taking a 1 hour lesson per fortnight at Southend Airport at a cost of £450 per hour........you needed i think it was 45 flying hours of which 10 had to be solo.........i only remember the figures because after about 15 lessons i got bored of it and packed up ......i say got bored...when they started on about meteorology, radio telephony and navigation i realised id probably bitten off more than i could chew in terms of learning :icon_redface: ..... these flight schools are not daft and they certainly saw me coming !.....but im not scared of heights anymore so wasnt a complete disaster...........good luck to your lad though Walshie im sure he,ll do fine, young brain and all that.
